Unfortunately his cap hit would still count. In which case you might as well have him play...

he's an under 35 contract so the cap hit should not count if he's suspended

Only one guy is to blame. Yes, it has effected the whole franchise, but how this clown is still running the show is beyond me.
- moondawg

You do realize that the Aquilins played a huge part in the Luongo situation, right?

I'm not a fan of Gillis's recent moves either, and he should have traded Lou for the best offer last summer, but if the Aquilinis were willing to pony up and buy out the ridiculous contract they apparently made Gillis offer Lou, they wouldn't be in this mess.

I'd have to research that.

I think the players association would say no to voiding it.
- Isles_since_6

Aren't they supposed to take Luongo's side? If Lu wants it voided, they should be fighting for him & arguing that Gillis has created an awful working environment.

If he doesn't report you suspend him without pay, cap hit aside, we'd still be ok.
- LeftCoaster

(frank) that.

If his cap hit counts, you play him.

He's infinitely better than Lack and Ericksson, at this point.

They can mutually agree to terminate it, but Luongo can't force the Canucks to rip up his contract. If he fails to report, he doesn't get paid.
- nucks_94

I'm not so sure about that. I'm looking through the CBA now, but I have a feeling the NHL would take issue with this type of situation as cap circumvention. The Canucks still have a compliance buyout available to them, I think the NHL would tell them make amends or buy him out.

Totally agree, I was laughing at Bozak, not you or the Leafs.
- 1970vintage

You should be laughing at Bozak, it is a joke.

They just gave him $21 million over 5 years!!

Good job No-Nuts!!

He's right, if Lu refuses to report, he gets suspended without pay and his cap hit doesn't count.

The point I'm making is, he doesn't want to play, thus he doesn't show up. Can't play him if he's not in Vancouver.

I'm not privy to the insider talk, so I can only assume Gillis is at fault, and if the Aquilini's are running the show, then Gillis should have quit long ago.

You shouldn't care how much money your team spends, only that they don't screw themselves down the road. That's a pretty formidable set of forwards in the top 9. Maybe a bit too much money, but I agree, the term is trouble.

I think they'd push for the buyout as the only option, otherwise it would open the door for teams that regularly push the floor *cough Isles* to look at doing something similar: ie, piss off a player so much he just wants out and they can ditch the contract.

If the Aquilinis were willing to buy out Lou, he'd be signing with another team right now.

It's sad that it's come to this, is it not? Our starting goalie got traded for a prospect and the new starting goalie may not even report and we're now cheering that his cap hit wouldn't count in that scenario.

The point I'm making is that they would not be "ok" without him. It would/will be a disaster.

They can't out score they're problems.

If he's on the books, you do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get him to play.

Tim Thomas is still available...

The problem with the ongoing Lu saga is that it is still months away until anyone knows for sure, and by then, it will be too late to implement a plan B

I'm not so sure that is actually a possibility. I don't think teams and players can simply void a contract.
- 1970vintage

If both sides agree to void the contract I think it is. Just like a divorce only both could benefit from this divorce.
