To me its about team needs. The team needed a quality 3C that was good on faceoffs, could play good defensive minutes and pk. Boyd Gordon wouldve been great for that role. Cullen is another good option.

Im not interested in signing Horton, Clarkson, Grabovski, etc because if we are rebuilding, there is no need for those types of players.

Why not? Let him play the minutes. If we play him in an offensive role, meaning hes getting 60%+ OZ starts, paired with Ehrhoff against other teams less offensively talented players... he could thrive.

The last 3 games of the season, under Rolston, he was awesome. Playing with more confidence. Taking it to the net, putting shots on goal, etc.

Good goaltending can usually get you in. But theyd have to learn to score goals to get far
