Is Holtby still not "f'n rock solid" compared to Miller? Are the Caps, a team which just saw their 2C walk because of cap space, still a team who needs Miller? - Blackstrom2
WSH should be more focused on either Vanek or Ennis, not miller. |

This is ridiculous. Miller will have value before or on the deadline regardless of what happens today. All it takes is one injury or one unexpected contending team to give him value. People are willing to take a risk on one of these average goalies now, when everyone in the league is tied for first place.
Does the Islanders' Nabby signing all the sudden make them a serious contender? No. Does Philly finally have it's goaltending situation figured out with Mason/Emery? Hell no. Do the Caps still have no talent between the pipes? Absolutely. There will be a market for Miller at some point this season. - BuffaJoe
Which contending teams paid big for a goalie at last years trade deadline again? Pretty sure it was none. The year before? Same story. When is the last time there was a big deal for a goalie at the deadline? |

We half lots of cap space and a owner with money. We can retain 50% of Millers cap hit. Money isn't a issue. |

Agree. He will get more. During the season. |

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Nathan Horton's deal with CBJ is 7 years, $37.1 ($5.3 AAV) but he gets $30M in first 5 years.
Not a bad cap hit at all |

Looks like Detroit is going to get even better. Stephen Weiss close to deal.
Tad bit of an upgrade over Brunner and Cleary - CaptPantalones
Always thought Weiss would be incredible as a complementary player. Now maybe he gets to be...it'll suck to have to watch it up close. |

The Caps are not focused on a goaltender at all. Holtby put up better numbers than most of these "elite" guys for the past 3 years. Holtby is younger. Holtby is cheaper.

Will be fine, especially if cap is back up to 70 million next year. Still have good enough cap room this year too |

Everyone keeps saying that, but when Pegula was asked that question by Sylvester, he did not sound like he would be open to paying for players to play for other teams |

So instead, we absorb a cap hit we still can't fit, albeit smaller, and then also likely send out one of our younger, cheaper goaltenders out.
What a great plan for the Capitals moving forward. |

So lets talk Vanek.
Vanek-Backstom-Ovechkin line sounds nice, no?

How often do "star" goalies get traded at the dealine or during the season for that matter? - ImThatGuy
The frequency of those moves happening has nothing to do with Miller having more value to a contending team than he will on the Sabres. It's also has nothing to do with Miller as an asset needing to be moved for something rather than being allowed to walk for nothing. |
