How can I keep up with your poopty takes? Conditional picks for re-signing happen all the time. And they are always in the same situation as Miller is with the Sabres. It actually allows a team to trade low value picks for rentals. That's how that works. Go on though, be insulting. It's fun. You're a hero. Congrats.

Again, why on earth would STL send a conditional 1st to re-sign Miller, when they know they can just offer him a contract at free agency next year. Please show me an example of a trade like the one described in which the team offered a conditional 1st if the guy re-signs. You can't because they don't do it. You're going to come up with some example which is unlike the trade described, and then I'll have to point out how it's not the same.
