To sign a (frank)ing Defenseman. One of the biggest "soft" spot with this team last year was the D without Emelin and he's out for a big chunk of the start of the season. The Habs need a D that can actually get Price a little bit of space. Who is another question, but that's where Desharnais' money would go.

Capgeek shows we have about 4m in cap space, who in the remaining free agents, would you sign for more than that?

your comment to me was just as predictable and typical therefore I didn't feel the need to come up with anything earth shattering

No one so this is a good point. That being said, what do you want to do with Desharnais in the line-up as it stands today? He's the odd man out (not in terms of size of course).

We've already got Eller, Plekanec, Galchenyuk and Briere looking at top 9 C positions!

Now say MB trades him for nothing and he does well, it sucks but not really long term. if MB doesn't and he sucks again, then he's really unloadable and that contract litters MB's cap (along with Moen's deal) for another 3 seasons while having to re-sign many young and better players.

My point is, he has no value right now and there is no hurry to trade him right now. Let's see how the season plays out. My guess? He will play on a line with Brière and Pacioretty and put up good numbers. phantom assists or not, it will make him at least more desireable for other teams, if not for the habs
