I think their inability to score goals in the playoffs was a pretty glaring hole. They scored 2, 3, 1, 2 and 1 goals, respectively in their 5-game series loss to Ottawa. - 3M
and why did they have so much trouble scoring? i don't think it was for a lack of small, quick forwards firing from all angles. |

Not sure why Alfredsson would leave Ottawa at this point... unless the Sens clearly lowballed him. |

That (frank)er really needs to step up his offensive game. |

Eric, the playoffs exposed the Habs' major holes. in all honesty, does signing Briere address a single one of them? and please don't point to his playoff scoring prowess because he's now going to be playing on a team with very little size up front. - DoubleDown
One of their major holes was finding offense against the Senators. You can't tell me not to point to Briere's playoff scoring prowess as proof he fills a missing quotient.
I won't deny that the Canadiens are badly undersized, and that this does nothing to change that.
I think the blog offers a complete and balanced assessment. |

Well stopping a puck or two usually helps the team a little. |

That'd have to be the reason. Ottawa's clearly not close. |

Well this blog entry certainly illustrates well my position on the following;
Brière is exactly the opposite of Plekanec. |

This is irrelevant if they miss the playoffs. As of right now, this team isn't very good. |

Maybe it's just me, but this is practically the same team that just won the division. I don't think Briere vs. Ryder is going to make them that much worst. In fact the Gallys having 1 year under their belt is likely to make this team better.
Cup contenders? Not close, but playoff team. Yeah.... |

We said the exact same thing this season and they won the division...no one will argue they need to get bigger but they are a talented team still. Just not a playoff team yet.

He was good in the past, no guarantees he will be in another year or 2. Morrow, Iginla, Clowe, etc would all be in the 3-5M range and would have all been better options. |

see that's the thing. i don't think he would have helped in that regard. 7 years ago? for sure. but with this team as currently constructed, i don't see it. and i'm not quite sure why Bergevin would address this area over the glaring lack of size up front. |

It's going to be weird seeing Alfie in a Red Wings sweater next year, almost as weird as seeing Borje Salming in one in 1989. |

you think they would have won the division in an 82 game season? they were sliding fast and sucking royally. |

looks like Alfie really is done with the Sens
http://nesn.com/2013/07/r...-wont-return-to-senators/
but let's keep in mind that Detroit moves into our division this year either way so we still gonna have to deal with him. I'd rather see him on the Bruins if he's gonna move. |
