Maybe it's just me, but this is practically the same team that just won the division. I don't think Briere vs. Ryder is going to make them that much worst. In fact the Gallys having 1 year under their belt is likely to make this team better.

Cup contenders? Not close, but playoff team. Yeah....

- l3ig_l2ecl

Look at how they finished the year. That's a better picture of the team we have. Our top 6 forwards aren't very good. Aside from Pacioretty and Pleks, the rest aren't great. The good news is that we have two great ones in Gallagher and Galchenyuk.

Our D needs to be rebuilt plain and simple. Subban and Tinordi are great building blocks. I'm a fan of Gorges. We need two big physical dman.

One of their major holes was finding offense against the Senators. You can't tell me not to point to Briere's playoff scoring prowess as proof he fills a missing quotient.

I won't deny that the Canadiens are badly undersized, and that this does nothing to change that.

I think the blog offers a complete and balanced assessment.

- EricEngels

Ever thought he might be done? Hope he's not now that he's signed...but those stats you so often refer to happened two years ago, and with a much better team than he'll be playnig on...I really don't think he'll replicate those numbers...

He'll probably have a better regular season than the last 2 years, but I don't think he'll be as "clutch" in the playoffs as he was with the Flyers.

i'd add Emelin in as a nice building block as well. i would fully expect Beaulieu to develop into at least a serviceable NHLer. then between the rest of our prospects like Dietz, Thrower, Ellis, Pateryn, plus trades/UFAs... i would say the defence long term is not in the worst shape.

Emelin will be one of them, right now the only guy i could see the habs targeting today is Scuderi but i don't see it happen.

I'm a Leafs fan. Just shamed by the Grabo buyout if the $$ is used to sign Bozak. Can't be sure until today is over.

going to Toronto according to Dreger. solid pickup for them if true. Nonis is being incredibly aggressive over there.

I agree that Emelin is a good piece. Word is, he won't be ready until November and he'll also be a UFA next year. He does bring a nice dynamic to our D.

I do hope they trade Markov. I'd leave Beaulieu in the AHL one more year and try to bring a tough Dman.

Great stay at home dman, very good in his zone and always there to clear the front of the net. He would definetly improve the Leafs D.

I like Scuderi but he's 34. He's looking for 4 or 5 years. Teams will overpay once again. I prefer we go the trade route.

This is irrelevant if they miss the playoffs (true--it's in the blog, check it out if you want). As of right now, this team isn't very good (false).

Not now, you have nobody to replace him as the set-up man on the PP. If the team underachieves this season, trade him at the deadline. Return will be greater.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 23s

Revisiting Scuderi tweet from earlier. Now hearing he's likely going back to Pittsburgh. 3-4 years has been discussed. Around $3 mil per

This trade might not be popular among all Bruins fans, who envisioned Seguin as a future superstar. But he might go down as a player who squandered his great gifts. Multiple sources said the 21-year-old Seguin crossed the line this season with reckless partying.
It apparently got so bad that during the playoffs, the Bruins ordered Seguin to live in a hotel, where a guard was hired to make sure he stayed in his room. But Chiarelli repeatedly defended Seguin, calling him “a good kid and a terrific player” and “a tremendous package of speed and skill.”

Briere doesn't give the team the big forwards the need but this deal is nowhere near as bad as the ones we have seen the last 4-5 years from previous managment

2 years and its a moveable contract if they feel he needs to be traded at one of the next 2 trade deadlines

for some reason some fans of all teams dont realize not every player would play for all 30 teams

Bringing in someone tough seems nice, but then people will complain on the lact of PP scoring. As much as Markov is no part of the future, he should play out his remainder of the contract. The problem is the coach giving him 25 minutes because he has no other option. Give Markov -15 minutes + PP/Subban, and he's golden. You can even resign him for 2Mil to be a PP specialist if he would take that.

why no mention in your blog of exploring other options? I think the consensus seems to be that we are not worse for having briere but that there were many other options and thats a big part of why so many dislike the signing.
