Doesn't that mean his cap hit is $2MM?
Way too high - better alternatives were out there for that much. - StLBravesFan
Per CapGeek, potential bonuses are factored into the cap hit. They have Alfredsson on the Wings at 5.5 cap hit. 2 mil of that is potential bonuses. So you're right.
On the other hand, Hawks FO might have felt what you just said about not wanting to overwork CC coming off a short summer so they wanted more than just a cheap vet backup. If Khabby is healthy, he is better than the other cheaper backup names being tossed around. Maybe Theodore or one of the older, former number 1's would have been a good choice as well. |

Maybe, like 1 million plus incentives. Makes sense for both parties. |

Well the Khabby signing probably kills two birds with one stone, a veteran backup and a guarantee Raanta gets NHL time while Khabby is on the IR. - Hemingways
That's a great way to look at it...
Because you just know that Khabby will pull pull his groin at least once, and throw his back out several times. |

I'm with you...
...my only disappointment today was Zus returning. Would have preferred someone younger with more speed.
So be it...it's only 1 yr. and 1M. - ArlingtonRob
I thought Zeus was going to ride off into the sunset, and if anything, play in Europe. Would have preferred Hendricks or even Lapierre. Gordon wasn't going to get 3M from Chicago. |

Indeed. It's looking like a bad deal on paper. |

How much did Hendricks sign for?
Nevermind, found it: 4 years, $7.4 million
They might have not wanted to commit money/term like that with McNeil/Danualt hopefully ready in a year or so. |

Moi Aussi - I was calling for Darroll Powe at around 750k for a couple years but Zues at 1 yr for 1 million is manageable. |

Ty Conklin? I think he's been retired for a couple of seasons now. |

Exactly. If his cap hit is 2M, I'd have gone shopping elsewhere. |

Did I not call it earlier? New offseason, same scheit MO. Worst FA signing of the year. - Q...argh
Called what? You've definitely been complaining...but you were doing that during the finals.
It's the friggin' backup goalie.
Besides, if Khabby plays part time like he did last year you'll be calling for him to replace CC by New Years. |

Me too. They can spot him with Pirri and the other kids, plus Kruger/Shaw/Smith/Sharp etc. can play C. Just keep Mr. Hand fresh for the playoffs, along with Rozy. |

Yeah, then I'd agree with that. Too rich for a 4th liner. Lapierre was much cheaper, but maybe he wasn't on their list.
Pretty happy with how Stan has done during the off-season. Certainly much more enjoyable than the 2010 off-season. |

I'm not sure how bonuses affect cap hit. I think they affect it the following year. As long as Khabby stays around 30-40 games, I think he'll be alright. We needed someone with SOME chops- Crow may be an Olympian and won't be able to handle a normal workload given the unusual timing off of lockout/cup year and into Olympic year |

At this point of his career Zus can't pick up enough speed to feel a breeze. |

Go to this CapGeek link on Alfredsson, who signed a bonus laden contract with Detroit today....
http://capgeek.com/player/408
If you hover your mouse cursor over the flag next to/under the P. Bonuses section, a little box pops up that says Performance Bonuses are factored into cap hit.
Maybe later in the year near the trade deadline some of those performance bonuses aren't achievable based on playing time and it frees up some cap room. Not sure.
But CapGeek knows the basics of cap hit and performance bonuses better than any of us do. So I have to say Khabby is going to show up at $2 mil once they add him to the roster. |
