If he's healthy, wouldn't be the worst back up.
Last year 2.54 & .923 save percent.
Assuming no injury to Crow, you're looking for a guy to play 15-20 games.

New goalie coach?

Highly doubt there would be controversy. Q, the FO and Thomas would hold the line that he is a backup (Thomas is always team first). If Crow has a bad streak people would call for him just like many here were for Emery.

Some other White House refusals came from people like Thoreau, Mandela, and Twain. Hardly a new form of protest. A little ridiculous from a sports player though in the middle of the season. That was a mistake.

I would go and shake his hand. But, I wouldn't wash it beforehand, and I'd have to soak it in Janitor in a Drum for a week after.

I'm really surprised by all the talk online about Alfredsson "being selfish".

He didn't owe the Senators anything, wtf? He has the right to choose where he plays, as any FA. He talked to them and told them he was interested in leaving, and rejected several offers from the team, including a promise to trade him in-season if they weren't contending, according to the Sens GM.

It sounds like he was honest from the start that he wanted a different challenge and to be on a team he thinks has a better shot at winning.

How is that being selfish?

ugh.

Especially since ownership apparently won't do everything possible - such as (responsibly) spending available cap money to build a Cup winning team.

Sorry to interrupt the political talk, but I'm pleasantly pleased with where Stan has positioned this team.

Hawks presently sit as the #15 team in terms of cap payroll and have everyone signed but Kruger and a backup G. There are 5 teams (PHI, CBJ, MIN, DET, SJ) over the cap right now, and another 3 (TB, PIT, MTL) that are a nut hair below.

There should be some reasonable options available for cheap once the dust settles.

Agreed, when the musical chairs stop there are going to be a bunch of players looking for a job somewhere and willing to play for much less than their agents told them they were worth.

At that point the Hawks may jump in to see if they can improve the bottom 5 or 6 spots on the roster. And they also have kids in Rockford on 2 way contracts that can be used as trade bait.

According to Capgeek, only PHI is over the cap payroll limit and that's only until the start of the season when they can put Pronger's in the LTIR and have his salary come off the books.

Hey, Carcillo and Lapierre are in the division. The Wild needed their own douchebag to skate too.

For as much crap as Matt Cooke gets for being a dirty player, he's a pretty good one too.

Consistently puts up 30+ points a season playing on the third line and is very scrappy and not afraid to get into the dirty areas.

If he didn't have such a bad reputation for the illegal hits, I'd say he'd be a great add for any team.

lineup looks pretty decent

bickell/toews/kane
sharp/brandon pirri/hossa
saad/kruger/shaw
bollig/handzus/ben smith

with guys like carcillo on the bench and jimmy hayes, jeremy morin, and perhaps joakin nordstrom, danualt, mcneil, and others from rockford able to be called up and sent down as needed.

I know Handzus will be used all over the place, 2c, 4c, etc., along with Shaw and Kruger, Which should allow them to break Pirri in slowly if they need to.

As others pointed out, some of those vets might miss the start of the season, which isn't awful because it gives some of the kids a chance to get more experience before going back to Rockford.

And while we wait for Rozy's cap hit number, we know they'll still have room to make a deal if needed during the season if the kids disappoint or an important vet gets a major injury.

So overall, the outlook is pretty good, especially compared to after the 2010 Cup.
