If a man doesn't want to meet the President because the President is a tool. I have to respect the fact he is a man standing on his principles. Dan Hampton didn't go when the 85 bears went. It takes more character to stand on your principles then to follow the sheeple.

As for Thomas coming to Chicago. I say no! he is to old and took a year off. he will not be able to bounce back after the layoff.

You can't make the statement he is a team first guy when he allows his personal beliefs to overshadow what was meant to be a team celebration.....you just can't......
- UnnamedSource

Of course I can. Just like you arguing Stals shouldn't be crucified for not smacking Chara.

This was a one time, high profile decision in a 20 year career of team first ethos.

He probably wouldn't do it again - though it was his right - just because it may have damaged the team. He has said as much.

They're apparently trying to unload Brookbank. Not sure what's not to like about Zus at 1 million for one year. It's a low risk move.

Emery was 50/50 to stay as he wants more playing time to try and get a big deal next year. Stalberg is garbage and wanted too much money. Frolik had to go. Makes too much for a fourth liner.

Don't know if that's Razor's intention, but it also positions him to come back if Crow prices himself out of Chicago. He did seem to like being in the Windy City

There was an article on Stan in today's Tribune that had some very nice things to say about Pirri. It's strange to me that he totally seemed persona non grata last year and now is getting name dropped repeatedly by the powers that be the last week or so.
- NewToHockey

I think I would rather take a chance on a young developing kid like Pirri at $850K on a one year deal than commit the kind of money and term that guys like Ribeiro, Tyler Bozak, Boyd Gordon and Stephen Weiss got.

Not sure if you thought that would be insulting because I support Thomas. If so, very sad.

I really don't care that he snubbed the White House - whether it would be Obama or Bush or Reagan or Carter.

My worry is that he's been a first goalie for years, SC goalie only 2 years ago, now being asked to play 20 games as a back-up and keep his mouth shut.

Can he be effective playing maybe once every 10 days after he's been used to playing every other nite or every 3rd nite?

Doubt Emery evers returns to the Hawks. His hip is way too questionable for long commitment. Keep a steady stream of young, affordable Finns coming to Chicago and all will be well.

That would be a risk if he hadn't taken a year off. I doubt it is now that he has a sense of the market. Of course, someone still may pay him big bux. After today's insanity who knows?

Weiss and Clowe still make me wonder if front offices actually watch the games.

Personally, I would like to see that the POTUS spend more time being....Presidential. Never understood why our money is being spent for 50-100 people's benefit. I would guess that more than 65% of that team are not US citizens, so they could care less, other than it's a story to tell the grand kids. Thomas as a US citizen exercised his 1st amendment right. I may not agree with what people say, but I will put myself into harms way to make sure they can say it.

Commendable sentiment, but we have been warned (and many bans have been issued) to keep politics off this site. Just sayin'

No need to frost cookies, many people find all sorts non performance items to isolate and assail guys. That is their right as fans. We can project all sorts of stuff, real and mostly perceived on anyone and then speak as if it is common knowledge.

Think what happened with us the past two years when our FO did almost nothing.

Think what would have happened this year had Zetterberg scored in the OT before Seabrook did - without a big move or three, Stan would have been buried.

GMs who aren't winning have to make expensive splashes in free agency, and hope they work. If not, they do push the problem a year or two into the future.

Great points. Holland and Lamoriello have enough standing to take those risks I guess.

I don't see a long-term commitment either...but it wouldn't surprise me if had an interest in Chicago again in a year--doesn't mean much beyond that

I'm really surprised by all the talk online about Alfredsson "being selfish".

He didn't owe the Senators anything, wtf? He has the right to choose where he plays, as any FA. He talked to them and told them he was interested in leaving, and rejected several offers from the team, including a promise to trade him in-season if they weren't contending, according to the Sens GM.

It sounds like he was honest from the start that he wanted a different challenge and to be on a team he thinks has a better shot at winning.

How is that being selfish?

ugh.

Sorry to interrupt the political talk, but I'm pleasantly pleased with where Stan has positioned this team.

Hawks presently sit as the #15 team in terms of cap payroll and have everyone signed but Kruger and a backup G. There are 5 teams (PHI, CBJ, MIN, DET, SJ) over the cap right now, and another 3 (TB, PIT, MTL) that are a nut hair below.

There should be some reasonable options available for cheap once the dust settles.
