The Hawks re-upped Handzus. You can quit wishing for another center.

We have the Cup, they've won 1 playoff series ever. I like our position.
- kwolf68

We're still [much] better than them. That's not debatable.

I'm just pointing out that they are targeting some of Chicago's players of interest.

With Matt Hendricks off to Smashville why do I feel people are turning into Norm McDonald from "The Animal" to go lynch Stan Bo....

Guess I'll be shouting for Sharp to 2C again this fall...

...then again the Hawks won a cup without a true 2C so what do I know...

We couldn't afford scuderi at 2.7? Stan blows as a GM. I don't want to hear any different.

You and me both...Q wants Sharp on wing, but he's a hell of a center...wins 50% on the dot, skates great, smart, responsible...will see.

Clowe with 3 goals in 42 total games last year....

- philco28

What is wrong with New Jersey? They let Clarkson walk and then sign Clowe - 4 - 5 years older with a fraction of the production last year for marginally less.

Cannot believe Clowe got that money. Same with Weiss and Ribeiro!

Owners are screwing themselves.

Shaw is brutal on the dot. I can see him heading back to wing one day. Kruger is my darkhorse pick for L2-C next year. He deserves a shot at it and his game is so complete and smart, in the least he won't hurt us. The question is will he blossom centering Hoss/Sharp, because he should.

I disagree... Other than drafting Seth Jones which is a good stride forward, they have brought in typical "Nashville-type" players (fringe 2nd, mostly third liners with little offensive upside) into the fold... Their defense is still a force for sure and will continue to be but their offense doesn't scare me

That's who I'd like to see centering the 2nd line come October.

Well they are getting many new names, but improvement? Considering how they collapsed last year they can only go up.

Preds should be better, and certainly more interesting.

Not liking this offseason..

Keeping guys we shouldn't (hanzuis, brookbank, etc), and losing guys we shouldn't (emery, Frolik, Stalberg)....

And the clowns they're considering in few agency... Ha! Looks like 2010/11 and 11/12 all over again.

There is no other sport with transactions as fast and furious one day as in today. Well, maybe pro football. Thoughts come to mind about roster fill and whether some teams made prudent decisions. To wit:
1). Wasn't Horton a non physical force during most of the regular season? Was Boston ready to let him go -- perhaps still let him walk despite his playoff results? Maybe Horton has his moments if he has a Lucic or Krejci as line mattes. Seven years ...how much guaranteed? He'll have his moments alright..?how many at the bottom of the junk jeep by year three?

2). Nashville trying to improve its skill set,,eh! SJones will have trial and error but good system and coach in Nashville. Stalberg can be viewed as, how much does he help rather than how much does his speed result in foiled scoring attempts. He helps them improve nonetheless since he gives them some value even if he finishes as well as Paul Woods did back in the day for Red Wings!

3). New faces, new look to some degree in Toronto and Detroit. Deeper roster. Wings have some youngsters coming along. Their third line rookies vs us in playoffs and Smith a year of experience on blue line....but this team has a well known system and good coach. They become a better team. On other hand, Maple Leafs are better but still have a weakness on blue line. How good is Gardner going to be? How much better is their goaltending. Key word "better" is netminders.

4). Just knew Riberio would land with Phoenix or Vancouver. Also, as for Chicago.....Stan the man just patiently waits for the beginning of the next wave of prospects to arrive while the old bunch of Rockford prospects fills in.

Smith is ok but there has been concern his quickness is transition offense to defense. He may surprise with his good shot and going to dangerous traffic areas. Pirri won't last, Morin cannot skate well enough though perhaps he gets it in learning how to play smarter hockey, and Hayes I dislike. Hayes may score some but with his skating turns his skating means he is late getting to checks and that is when he is not falling down. He needs to concentrate more on delivering hits than goals to stick,in Chivago lineup. All told, these old prospects will play more than you would want foremost with Hossa moving more like a broken down model of a great hockey player. Hossa is not a china doll but he no longer is this big tough redwood. Then there is Handzus, he who is not a full schedue player. Concern, too, other injuries occur (Shaw does play reckless).

I suspect that the new prospects at first could get a cup of coffee as a reward for play in Rockford and as a way for them to learn, see first hand what they need to improve upon. We can be glad that Danault and Nordstrom have been noted as strong on face offs before turning pro. Nordstrom is 160 weight....he will get killed NHL? Well the real plum is Tervainen. And those who get excited about Johns as a nasty and mobile dman...he surely needs a year in the AHL. Maybe that swede Rockford dman could earn a look....steady, makes simple plays, will play physical as needed. The AHL watchers will let us know about the Icehogs. I am not a regular enough Icehog watcher to give the best update or review.

My guess is that he gets to challenge for that job with whoever they had down in Milwaukee. Hutton could end up playing in Milwaukee next season.
