They are all prospects...don't know if they are going to pan out...the Islanders have at least 5 or 6 defensive prospects (Reinhart, Pedan, Mayfield, deHaan, this year's #1 pick)...they could have included one and maybe Nelson for Ryan...
- kear20

depends if anaheim would have wanted them. By the looks of the players they did get in the trade, I would be shocked if we could have thrown a defenseman at them, I'd say our equivalent would have been Strome, a young roster forward and a 1st. I just don't like that idea for 2 years.

Considering in a couple of years they will be playing in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge but I'm sure he's planning to win at least one before they leave NVMC.

No question if the core continues to improve and the propsects like Stome live up to the hype, Snow is golden. If not he will be gone soon after Brooklyn.

He might be gone anyways if Wang sells after the move.

The contracts we're seeing handed out today are borderline assinine. Clowes contract is a joke. As for the trade, unless you were willing to part with Strome, Nelson and a 1st, there was no need to pull the trigger.
This team will be better simply by adding more of our prospectsto the mix. Bouchard and Clutterbuck are solid additions. More importently, we're doing this without over committing financially.

That's a stretch Keaner. I do like your optimism but solid addition? He's an over injured under achiever. Coin flip at best.

Would you have signed Scuderi to a 3 year 13.5 million contract if you were Snow?
- kear20

No, but I think he's slowing down and overrated. Others disagree, quite angrily

Yes I would have, that doesn't mean Scuderi wanted to sign here though.

Quote from Hamonic:

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday 10m
"... if I didn't truly believe that. Seven years is a long time -- to me, that's enough time to win a couple Stanley Cups." #Isles
Yea right...if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you...wouldn't be suprised if the Islanders are a top 5 entry draft team again...they should have gotten Scuderi and went for Ryan...and that's it...Who are the tops picks in next year's draft...I've had it with Snow...

I thought Hamonic wanted to play closer to home?
- mighty13duck

I guess they ment his home on the Island.

My friend played with him here for a while and they were actually pretty close. Still talk. Last I heard which was a while ago was he had no interest in playing here in front of home crowd. Just didn't want his family involved for whatever reason? Someone recently posted on here(forgot who?) that he was willing to play here now, whether there was any truth to it or not who knows?

'Who knows' is definitely the operative phrase in that paragraph. It's the reason some people overreacting to the Islanders not signing a 34 year old stay-at-home defenseman is absolutely absurd.

That 34 year old stay at home Dman is pretty damn good. I'd like to think Snow made a play for him bcs I believe he'd be a great fit and we could definitely use a Stanley Cup winning Dman of his kind. He's a great player. I think most people are pissed due to Snow's inaction or assuming there was no call made in the first place. I have my doubts honestly. Do I KNOW? Of course not but I'd wager that Snow's phone didn't get much use today.

Glad Hammer is signed for 7 years. Great contract for both team and player. So, I guess Hamonic really wanted to play closer to home. Nothing like signing a 7 year contract extension to quash that stuff.

Not a great day, but not a terrible one either. If you think Bouchard is better than Boyes (I do) and Clutterbuck is better than Aucoin (I do), the team got better up front, even if it wasnt by as much as we would have liked.

"D" remains the issue. You lose Streit and replace him with Donovan. Lose a lot of offense, probably get better definsively. In net, Nabby should be better IF the coaches let Poulin get at least 30 games and keep Nabby fresh.

Still a lot of summer left and a whole waiver wire to look at, but minimal improvements so far are better than none.

last two years with a VERY good defensive LA team:

2011-12 Los Angeles Kings NHL 82 1 8 9 16 -7 20 0 1 1 4
2012-13 Los Angeles Kings NHL 48 1 11 12 4 -6 18 0 3 3 0

-7 and -6 doesn't look so good. 1 goal per year doesn't help offensively. I stand by my comment he's declining and not the same guy he was 3-4 years ago. Not worth the coin and not an upgrade.

I admittedly didn't watch him as much the past couple years but the games I did he looked good. I watched him closely because of his connection here and to a couple of friends of mine. I'll still stand by my post that he would've been a good addition to our defense which needs help as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly. I believe most fans are sick of "maybes" and what ifs. If these kids play to their potential than great but if they don't or aren't ready it's going to be a long season and a lottery pick.

I don't think he's terrible, don't get me wrong. I just look at where he is now in his career and think in 3-4 years he's going to look awful...like Mark Eaton

While I doubt Scuderi would have made the Isles a Cup favorite, his two Cups and years of playing D would have been worth it. Especially since it only costs money and no players. If he is lousy this year for Pitt, I will gladly post I was wrong about him.
