Homer did an excellent job this year. I believe the Flyers will be tough to play against
- bigmookalookie

Agreed, if nothing else happens I would give him a solid A. Not an A+ but an A.

That offense is not very good.
- stveshdy

There are some high octane centers:

-Legwand
-Mr. Carrie Underwood
-Matt Cullen
-Paul Gaustad

Full marks for Poile and his staff to identify blueliners in the draft, the forward position both in the draft and professional scouting, not so much.

Doing some back reading so I'm a bit late to this party.

But, I think part of the reason why people give the Flyers so much crap is because a lot of hockey purists still hate the Flyers for the broadstreet bully days. If you go back and watch that documentary that HBO did a few years back they interview some people who saw exactly that and admit to it. That grudge might have carried over into a new generation of people who are around hockey.

- Roytastic

I've read that before, and the hypocrisy of those people amaze me. Those people who loathe that era and our reputation are the first people to remind us that we haven't won a Stanley Cup...since that era.

Serious question. Would you pay Briere 4 M to play for us next year?

I know MTL has a different team and different needs, just asking if folks think he would be worth 4M to us?

- coffee junkie

I thought Danny lost the quickness to get to different areas of the ice to be an effective scorer. Age just caught up in my opinion. He was a great player, but not a $4 million/yr player at this point of his career.

Third line centers at best.

Homer has done a wonderful job thus far.
- bigmookalookie

I saw some quotes from him today. He sure tried to come across like he was content and finished. ESP with the defense which I think is a bunch of bs.

Seems like a poor attempt to boost some trade value

It might turn into a soccer kind of crowd in Smashville with singing and chants. Plenty of defensive struggles to gear up for in the 41 game home schedule. That forward core better get in front of the net and let Weber fire pucks off their shin pads to get scoring opportunities.

Nashville added a nice 2nd line center in Cullen, a solid second line(for them) winger in Stalberg and got a good third liner in Hendricks. How that really addresses any of their bigger needs escapes me.

Seguins a natural center. Krecji and Bergeron are still young and are fixtures. I like the move for Boston they are going to be a bastard to play against again
- Just5

Seguin ia a natural center who scored 30 goals on the wing.

I like the move too, against Boston that is, Eriksson is a good player, nothing against him, but to give up on him at 21 after a 30 goal season? The only reason he was on the 3rd line in the playoffs was to make Jagr happy in the top 6

Just curious as to what package from the Flyers would be comparable to what was traded for Ryan? Looked like too much for me.

you would think they would have targeted one or two scorers other than Stalberg, I guess that's why Rinne makes $7 million a year, no offensive support

Stalberg seems to be teetering in that Zherdev neighborhood of hockey. All world talent, but this may be his last go round in the NHL. I'm surprised at the length of his contract. Cullen has been effective, but a multi-year deal for a high mileage, old center, just don't know. I have no problem with the Hendricks signing.

______, Laughton and a 1st.

Can't decide on who the ______ is. Maybe Couturier or Schenn. Maybe Read. Silvferberg is a very talented guy that seems to have decision making issues at times.

That's the thing, the one sure bet is a third liner who is a solid player. Cullen's got a lot of miles on him, but he can still play solidly. Stalberg's definitely a wildcard, should be better than he's shown consistently, for sure.

Probably B. Schenn, Laughton, plus a pick. Maybe Coots instead of Schenn.

curious to see them attempt to extend him, (Ryan), next summer, he's a UFA after 2 years, & their owner, it seems, wants to go on the cheap from here on out.
Ryan will not take a home town discount
The Alfredsson thing was a money hassle at first, they didn't want to pay him very much and I think he took "hometown discounts years back for the team.

Nashville is a team in desperate need of playoff revenue. Gotta believe there is immense pressure and Trotz and Poile to deliver. That Weber mortgage payment is pretty brutal.

Although I would rather not use those assets and just sign him as a UFA in 2 years.

yeah, and even the trapping Devils gave in & signed Kovalchuk, I don't know who's more confusing in their team decisions this summer Nashville or Boston

No way I do that. Good job Homer. Showing some restraint for once. Now keep Coburn unless you upgrade.

It was tough for them, not a ton of great players in the class that bring guaranteed offense, and they probably couldn't go crazy. Stephen Weiss made a lot of sense for them, not that he's a stud or anything, but he's a better player than Cullen at this point.

The only thing left to make this a perfect offseason is to move Mez for a 4th and call it a day.
