Horton's bothers me...he could be out until December with his shoulder if the surgery is needed.

Imagine paying a dude that much for 7 years and he misses half of his first season.

He is getting surgery suppose to be back in December.

Why is the Giroux deal questionable?
- MJL

More $ then most hope for including Bill. That said Getzlaf and Perry real set the price at 8 or more.

When you lose Parise, and now Clarkson, you have to do something. They just hope that Clowe can bounce back and get to that 20 goal 50 point mark. A lot of players were affected by the lockout.
- MJL

I would have rather had Clarkson for the terms he signed for than Clowe. Devils did ok with the Ryder deal.

Cap hits are going to be higher with the new rules. Players only signing for 7-8 years. Can't fudge the #s anymore.

We've see what high priced contracts do to good players such as Briere for example. Is Giroux on the dame level as Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos and Ovechkin? He might be. We've seen signs of it but are we positive?

I always expected it to be around 8M. I said that as far back as last Summer.

I don't see what those players have to do with Giroux's deal. I don't feel that Giroux is going to stop playing at a high level.

Who do you think is a better player? Giroux or Parise?

I'm a fan of Holmgren. He isn't perfect, but he's still a pretty good GM

People also thought Ales Hemsky would be an all star.

Does anyone believe Gags is still a possibility cap wise and roster wise.
Can't let this guy go.... 1.75-2M 1-year contract can be done I'm sure.

Schenn - Giroux- Voracek
Read - Lecavalier - Simmonds
Hartnell - Couturier - Gags
Laughton - Hall - Talbot

(Rinaldo -Rosehill)

* All left wingers on the top 3 lines will swith it up (Schenn, Hartsy, Read). You want at least 1 responsible 2-way forward on each line in your top 9.

Kimmo - Schenn
Coburn - Streit
Gus - Grossman

(Lauridsen)

Mason/Emery

CAP SPACE PER CAPGEEK: - 1M

Pronger: LTIR = 4.9M
Mezaros (trade when cleared): 4M
Gervais: 825k
Bourdon:612k

I think the worst contract today was Clowe. 5 years at 4.85 million for a guy coming off 3 goals in 40+ games last year. Not to mention he suffered two concussions in the playoffs.
- PLindbergh31

Oh, yeah -- my bad, folks. The Ryane Clowe contract is heinous on every level known to man. He was a warrior in San Jose, and I don't mean to be cruel.

But he's got 20 goals over the last 116 games he's played. His decline has already started.

By comparison, Wayne Simmonds has 43 over 127 games, is six years younger and is signed for the next five years at less than $4 million a season. That's not an apples-to-apples comparison, because Simmonds wasn't an unrestricted free agent, but what I'm trying to show is the scary discrepancy in production that Ryane Clowe is likely about to experience as he gets older, compared to the salary he will make.

I'm just kidding man. I'm one of the most critical of Holmgren. I think he's done pretty well thus far.

You know, I really questioned him as a GM, but he made great moves so far this summer.

Streit, Emery and Vinny (on paper) seem to be great pickups.

The deals for 2 of them are a little long, but he managed to improve the team without dealing away from that young core. For once, I am satisfied haha.

Agreed -- Michael Ryder for two years, at that salary, is a really nice signing. It's like Lamoriello got Ryder and Clowe confused.

Bonus money isn't free on the Cap. It still has to be accounted for. His cap hit is 6M.
- MJL

bonuses count the following year towards the cap, this year its 1.8 no matter what, then they will add 4 mil to next years cap if he hits all his bonuses

Until opening night when 2 shots go through Mason's wickets, and Streit turns the puck over in his own end....
