It makes no sense, man -- I've been railing about this for two days, because it's like the world has gone mad. Totally insane.

I look at some of these deals and I'm just flat-out shaking my head at how the Flyers get brutalized like they do by people, including some of our own fans.

Val Filppula got five years, $25 million today. VAL FILPPULA. Whose career high in goals is 23. Whose career high in points is 66. He's never had more than 40 points in ANY OTHER SEASON HE'S PLAYED.

Meanwhile, some people hate Scott Hartnell -- who has not had fewer than 40 points in seven years, when he was injured and had 39 points in 64 games -- and only makes $4.75 million per season!

That's a horrible deal for Val Filppula! It can't be justified! There is no justification for that contract! NONE!

I know you get it, some others. But I say it again: We will miss Paul Holmgren when he's gone.

I'm a fan of Holmgren. He isn't perfect, but he's still a pretty good GM

But its doesnt mean they only have 5.2 for Rask left right now, right?
- hereticpride

For the Season yes, they have 5.2M left.

Holmgren gets some unfair criticism. I think all the "experts" aren't going to give him credit because the Bryzgalov situation was such a cluster(frank). The thing is, the MSM have to be smart enough to realize that Bryzgalov was a Snider driven transaction.

The Sixers will be irrelevant for the next 5 years.

Well, it's obvious that they'll be trying to tank and end up with two top 5 picks. Supposed to be the best NBA draft in years, so tank away.

By bus you can logically get to NY, BKN, Wash, Boston. That's about it.

I suppose when they go on road trips he can fly to the destination Dallas for example, then bus to OKC, SA, Houston etc...

The Sixers will be an awful team for a long time to come.

The Flyers got crucified for the Lecavalier and Streit deals. Same people praised Dupuis and Iginla moves and were fine with Clarkson, Horton and Clowe.

I don't feel like Iginlas deal is any different then Timonens from a one year stand point. Boston needs wingers, makes sense for one year.
- stveshdy

I agree. Lecavalier's deal looks like a steal along. You can say the same about such contracts as Mason, Emery, Voracek, Hartnell, Simmonds and especially Read's. On the other hand, Giroux, Timonen and Streit's deals are questionable.

I honestly can't decide which contract is the worst today -- Clarkson, for the rate of decline he's going to see as a max effort player in his mid-30s, or Filppula, who has one season over 40 points despite playing with talented players like Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen for multiple seasons.

Horton's bothers me...he could be out until December with his shoulder if the surgery is needed.

Imagine paying a dude that much for 7 years and he misses half of his first season.

I think the worst contract today was Clowe. 5 years at 4.85 million for a guy coming off 3 goals in 40+ games last year. Not to mention he suffered two concussions in the playoffs.

Great question. Need to throw Clowe in their too. I wouldn't say Iggy cause it's only one year.

When you lose Parise, and now Clarkson, you have to do something. They just hope that Clowe can bounce back and get to that 20 goal 50 point mark. A lot of players were affected by the lockout.
