I just dont see it unless there is a trade. For 4th line, out of position, and burning a year in pros without being about to send to minors. I think Laughotn would be a very good option at 3rd line, I just dont see them keeping him up for 4th line wing.

I do. He belongs in the NHL in my opinion. I think he makes the team. I could be wrong. We'll find out. I think the Flyers signed Hall as a fall back option.

As of late, maybe but overall I haven't been. However you're right now referring to my opinion on a trade that would weaken this team, if you don't get that trade which was proposed would in fact weaken then I'm sorry don't know how else to explain it other than a team if dedicated, skilled, disciplined players wins, not a bunch of stars ask this years penguins.

I just cant comprehend someone seeing a downside to locking up the face of the team...Is it a lot of money for the max term..yes...but that what top tier players are going for...thats the one I cant get quite wrap my head around...

Hall could be 600k insurance in case there is an injury or they try Laughton and decide that he isn't ready. Hard to tell when more moves could follow. Don't hear anyone complaining about where Rosehill fits in the top 12; how is Hall any different?
- Adam1

Its obvious that Rosehill is a 13 forward, but you dont sign Hall as a 2nd 13 forward.

No, you sign him as a better 13 forward/different type of spare part.

I hope these 13th and 14th forwards aren't precluding them from getting a deal with Gagne done.

The conkys scare me. I could also see his level of play dropping off around 30 but as MJL said his deal will be a steal by then. Overall, its a deal that had to get done and I'm very happy with the deal itself and when they did it.

Top tier players have actually gone for more.

Here's Giroux's deal.

8 years for $66.2M for a Cap hit of $8,275

Let's look at last year's two top Free Agents. Parise and Suter. Now they were signed under the old CBA, where you could still back load deals. With lower years on the back end to lower the Cap hit. Both deals are for the same money, so to keep it simple, we'll just look at Parise's deal. And to compare, we'll look at the first 8 years of his deal to compare it to Giroux's. They're both Forwards. Who is the better player?

Here is Parise's deal with the value for the first 8 years.

It's 8 years, for 80M. Simple math, that equals out to a 10M Cap hit.

So with salaries escalating as they always do. If Giroux after two more Season's was left with an expiring contract into UFA status. What would he have commanded on the open market? Think his deal would add up to more then an 8.25M Cap hit?

Didn't Holmgren say today when asked about Gagne, we are capped out? I thought I read that somewhere.

Yes and no.They have off season cap space available. They can legally sign him now, and make moves to get cap compliant for the Season, later. They need to clear a little over 1M right now, without placing Pronger on LTIR for the Season. Adding Gagne would mean they had to move whatever they sign him for. But if you look at the lineup right now, where does Gagne play? Seems to indicate that if they sign Gagne, a forward is getting moved. I think they may have Gagne on hold, looking to do other things first.

Not true. I've crunched the numbers. The Flyers have about 3.6M of off season Cap space right now.

Good points. I think if Gagne was signed and added to the current roster, he's absolutely a top 9 forward. He would force Rosehill to the Phantoms I would assume. Not sure if Rosehill can be recalled without being placed on Waivers. But to me, Rosehill and Newbury are interchangeable. In fact Newbury probably has more upside.

Chara, Lucic and Iginla? As happy as I am with the Flyers, the Bruins have that old school toughness I wish the Flyers had.

I think they would like to make a move before signing Gagne. Like moving a defenseman before making any more commitments. Just my guess.

I agree with this....it seems Gags wants to stay and they want to keep him but they have to wait and see if what they are working on actually goes through
