He went 17-1 in a "half season". I will take 34-2 in an 82 game season and let Mason have the other 46 games.

Man, you are a double talker. In the same post you say to look at the salary and not the cap hit and later proceed to give an example that is a cap hit.

Here is my thing with Mason. Sometimes people dont like to be in the spotlight. They dont like added pressure, and they do terrible when they are the central figure.


And sometimes its the exact opposite. Look at Mason his rookie year... coming into a new city, playing under the spot light. Calder Trophy. Look at Mason in his WJC games.. outstanding. Maybe playing in a city that loves hockey, and being the central figure is exactly what a person like Steve Mason needs to succeed. Maybe he wasnt able to get into games in CBJ... I dont know. What I do know is that he was outstanding in his small showing here last season.

That was a knee injury that may/may not have been related to his flesh-eating-diseased hip.

I don't know about the records in total revenue. All I know is that hasn't translated into an increase for top tier players in the last decade. And it is wrong to assume the next decade will be any different.

But it absolutely has... the only problem is that the cap has changed things. Terms have been stretched and GM's have found ways to spread things out.

Right now I could probably (off hand) think of about 30 players that are making north of 6 mill per season on long term deals. 10 years ago, guys didnt need to worry about 8 year deals because they could sign a contract for whatever the GM decided to pay them. The cap changed that.

So instead of seeing individual players getting 12 million dollar contracts, you are seeing a huge jump in guys getting long term high dollar deals.

I am the same exact way.. As soon as I read about Hall, I thought about Couts. Everyone else at the party was talking about Laughton going back...

No reason you cant get the same production that Bryz gave you. Odds are it could be better with the goalie situation.

I think if we get Emery and give Mason the lion's share.. he will be fine. If we are relying on Emery playing 30 games.. it will be a mistake. Give Mason 60 games.

I think trading Couturier would be a mistake. While I'm not ready to proclaim him a future Selke winner, I do think a consistent 20 goal scorer and a very solid defensive game is pretty much a certainty with him. Think J. Staal light.

My concern is since Couturier currently has a very small cap hit, if the Flyers do trade him how do they get equal value? I suppose they could package Coburn with him.

He was ranked 37th last season and there are only 30 starting goalies.
