My only fear is if on some miracle we get the opportunity to draft the guy, he refuses to sign with us and pulls a Lindros. He's obviously a huge Crosby fan and is probably a Pitt fan. Wouldn't be surprised if he hates our guts.

(That's him in the middle if you didn't get it.)

- JAKEw1234

Guys (for the most part) dont act that way. You get drafted and its the best day of your life.

Wait.. why do they need a top winger when they already have two?
- jak521

This is the team as of now. I don't like Voracek and Giroux playing on the same line. They both like to have control of the puck so one takes away from the other (IMO). I don't like Read or Schenn on the top two lines, and it's obvious they need to drop a defenseman OR TWO. Package a forward and defenseman for an upgrade at forward is the only thing I see left for them to do.

Read-Giroux-Simmonds
Hartnell-Lecalvier-Voracek
Schenn-Couturier-Talbot
Rinaldo-Laughton-Hall
Timonen-Schenn
Grossman-Streit
Coburn-Meszaros
Emery

Of course not as a give away, but some people act like we must keep Read at all costs. We just can't pay him, and he won't stay regardless if we play him 3rd line, which is where he fits in our lineup.
- JAKEw1234

He fits anywhere in the lineup. 1-4 lines. PP, PK 5v5. He may be our most versatile forward.

I dont get the wish to just trade they guy off to be honest. I wouldnt shop him, but if people came calling I would listen.

That would be awesome. Doubtful though.
- stveshdy

Yeah, doubtful is right, but stranger things have happened like Homer making good decisions about free agents and contracts. Coots+Coburn+something is a pretty enticing trade for St. Louis or Phoenix.

I love how after every player signs, people say the Flyers were in on them. So far today that would make up about 80% of the players.

I don't see why people are so against trading Read. Talbot is a good fit for the 3rd line RW, and if we play Read on the 3rd line next year he's going to leave next offseason.
- JAKEw1234

I agree with you. Plus the fact that Laughton may have a good chance making the team as well. Though if he does, I could be 4th line center, with Hall as scratched back up.

Raffl could make the team as well

I would hope, but I wouldn't leave it below a Pitt fan
Nahh it shouldn't be an issue (again, if some freak miracle were to happen and we were to end up with the kid), he's supposed to be a really humble and nice guy.

I havent seen anyone wish to get rid of him. Just speculating that it might happen and if it does, how it will go down

Two-way forwards are not something we lack, which is why I'm not totally against trading Coots if the return is what we need.

You do realize we had 2 PPG players last year? Voracek is a legit top line winger. We need to give Schenn enhanced playing time in order to see him blossom. Natural progression.

I did mention that Voracek had more goals and points than:
Rick Nash
Anze Kopitar
Thomas Vanek
Bobby Ryan
Both Sedins
Joe Thornton
Zach Parise
James Neal
Corey Perry
etc.

Guastfsson gains plenty of quality experience on how to walk to the Jody Shelley Suite.

Because we probably couldn't pay him even if he wanted to stay. It's get value now, or lose it to free agency next year. Dude was a free agency signing that we got for no assets and is now a valuable trade piece. Homer won this one. But to let him leave for nothing and have as much value as we started with before signing him? That's not very smart asset management imo.

That' the point. Still, wouldn't be shocked if one of Grossmann/Mez aren't ready for opening night.

Hopefully we can trade/dump a defensemen or two so Gus gets a real chance. He could be the first homegrown Flyers D since Therien!

...then trade him in a package for a Dman that could help us more to win hockey games for not only this year but for many going ahead?

Grossmann's been cleared to play already, and Mez will be cleared by the end of July.
