It's funny. I want to give Lou Lamoriello credit for walking away from that deal, but you can't give him a pass because he signed a worse player in Ryane Clowe to a five-year deal.

Ryane Clowe's rate of decline is like that of all power forwards: Swift. It will happen to Scott Hartnell one day, and I acknowledge that freely. It will look just as bad.

The difference is that the Flyers signed Scott Hartnell after a 37-goal, All-Star season. The Devils signed Clowe -- albeit in a shortened season -- after a three-goal season.

That's just unbelievable to me. The decline was obvious. I don't even know how you tell yourself, if you're the Devils, that the rate of decline hasn't accelerated on Ryane Clowe.

- AllInForFlyers

I think we need to step back and look at that objectively. Is it a drastic decline, or did he just have a bad Season? The lockout affected a lot of players. Some handled it well, some didn't. We saw that with Hartnell. The Devils lost Parise last year, and Clarkson this year. They have to add some forwards. Or spending all that money on Kovalchul is a waste. The Devils need to hop he get's back to that 20 goal 50 pt production. Free Agency is still about overpaying, just as it always has been.

Not that I saw. I'm sure Carchidi or one of his merry men will be all over it like a lamp shade when it goes down.

@BroadStBull: Scratch Stalberg. Signs with Nashville. 4 yrs,12M. #Flyers were in on him.

Right on cue. Only 20mins late

looks pretty solid.

I honestly think we have the potential for 9 20 goal scorers... Is that even possible?

Im not 100% on that either, just always thought if you were on a two way deal you could be sent down without clearing waivers or anything.
- flyerfan28

It has to do with the number of games you played as well. I know Bartulis had to go through waivers at some point before his eventuality. MJL would be able to provide more info. But it's more complicated that it seems.

Me want.

Erie had 19 wins this year and only 10 wins last year, so it is fairly easy to get tickets. Tullio Arena is an interesting place to watch a game. There are no seats in the end where most of that footage was shot; just the netting and a couple suites above the ice. I saw this kid a couple times this year. He's amazing and still the youngest kid in the OHL (I think). He had to get approved to play underage. Worth the drive across state if you can catch a weekend home series before the lake weather gets sketchy.

He's amazing. His eye patch during locker room interviews is particularly stellar. He should put a parrot on his shoulder and get a peg leg for full effect.

So if Gags signs we are looking at this as of right now...

Hartnell-G-Voracek
Schenn-Vinny-Simmonds
Gags-Couts-Read
Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Coburn
Grossmann-Gusty

Mason/Emery

- jak521

I don't see why people are so against trading Read. Talbot is a good fit for the 3rd line RW, and if we play Read on the 3rd line next year he's going to leave next offseason.

No. Because half of them will be injured by Thanksgiving. But in theory you are correct.

Wow the Weiss deal is sketchy! Makes Vinny contract look like magic. So does Clowe and Horton deals. Clarkson deal is also a huge ??

Why would Pierre bad talk the Vinny deal when it is painfully obvious that it is not nearly as risky as these others?

Pretty sure we have 10% over the cap in the summer - right up until day 1 of the season but hurt players count, Wellwood, Pronger, etc. Then day one we can flip to LTIR if we need it and stay compliant.
There are some negatives to using LTIR so if we don't need to use it that's preferable.

- FlyersGrace

I thought that as well. Can't we have gentemans agreement with Gags to sign him in October??

Alright, the Flyers are looking pretty good for this season so far. All that's left to do is make a trade for Alex Pietrangelo or Oliver Ekman-Larsson and we're set! Get it done Homer

Probably something to do with 25 goals for $900K.

Doesn't matter. With the new CBA only 900K (top ELC #) can be taken off the cap if a player is waived. We'd keep the rest on the cap hit - no more burying contracts in the AHL...
- FlyersGrace

Actually, the formula is the NHL minimum salary, +375K. So that's going to change from year to year. As the minimum salary goes up.

My only fear is if on some miracle we get the opportunity to draft the guy, he refuses to sign with us and pulls a Lindros. He's obviously a huge Crosby fan and is probably a Pitt fan. Wouldn't be surprised if he hates our guts.

(That's him in the middle if you didn't get it.)

They could give him a tryout and then decide if Laughton is good to go.

I dont think thats correct Schenn and Couts are on two way deals can come and go with or without relief. I think you're thinking of players on 1 way deals that used to be buried after clearing waivers.
- flyerfan28

I was wondering about this. So if you can't bury the contracts of players on 1 way deals anymore, the only difference between players signed before age 35 vs. 35+ with respect to the cap is that there is no cap relief if the 35+ player retires. Is that correct?

Of course not as a give away, but some people act like we must keep Read at all costs. We just can't pay him, and he won't stay regardless if we play him 3rd line, which is where he fits in our lineup.
