I thought the Malkin and Letang contracts were supposed to hamstring them?

Since those extensions, they have signed Dupuis, Kunitz, and now Scuderi.

They will certainly look different but Krejci, Rask, Bergeron and Chara will all be there and keep that team competitive. They have a nice young nucleus now as well. Very good defensive prospects.

Extensions don't kick in till next season so they had the space still this season. It'll be next offseason that you see them really strapped for cash.

I wouldnt say theyre having it tough, they got Loui Eriksson and a really good prospect in Fraser who has lit up the AHL, he might be a replacement for horton.
