Do you know why Clarkson would be a bad signing? Because Mark Spector thinks it'd be a terrific signing.

Thats all you need to know.

- DTF69

I didn't know that. Enough said.

Really good trade for the Oil - you guys should be happy that MacT kicked that off right. Now don't you dare go using that cap space on Clarkson!

MacArthur would be alot cheaper than Clarkson or Clowe and he plays two-way hockey which we have little to none of on our roster.

This is a joke....right???

Please Toronto, sign him. He'd be your new Jason Blake

I'm just not sure he brings enough of what the Oilers need.

If your LW were to be Hall, Paajarvi, MacArthur and Smyth going into the year thats not too bad but there better be a bit more beef down the middle and on the right side of the ice too.

- DTF69

Like i said the beefy guys that can actually play above the fourth line are gonna be stupid expensive in term or cap. This is a cost effective move for someone who's a better scorer.

All depends on how much it would cost and for how long.

Personally, I think he goes to Toronto.

Lets hope not - if he gets north of $5m with term gotta look at other options. Clarkson is not the highest paid winger on any team, but he's pretty darn valuable.

True Dat, Lazy Dbag

But MacArthur is not bad, I wouldn't mind seeing him back in TO at a decent price.

How?

Smid/Petry
Schultz/Schultz
Ference/Klefbom/Potter

- Killbot460

Smid and Petry do not belong together. They stink together.
Shultz and Shultz was tried last year. Didn't work either.

Which is why if Ference is coming in, I would believe that either Smid or N Shultz are on the way out.

I agree but he would be third line if Clarkson signs. We wouldn't need both. I do like Grabovski though. He is 29 and just under 6 ft but he could be a really good third line center.

Have you read any reports of what guys like Clowe or Clarkson want in free agency? Clowe is on the decline, Clarkson has had one hot streak amid a bunch of 3rd line level offensive seasons.

I'm torn on Clarkson. He brings something we need, but is going to be vastly over paid.

MacArthur isn't terrible defensively. He back checks well enough but I'm not sure he'd be a fit for a shutdown line.

if I were MacT I'd probably look more into guys like Cullen (2yrs), Scuderi (if he hits FA), Larose, and Boyd Gordon. There is really nothing worth blowing your load over in FA.

I honestly think Clowe might come cheaper than anticipated after this season he had.

All you heartless bastards. Let me be the first to thank Horcs for his years of service. Class act all the way. Dallas has made some good trades today, they will be a deep and solid squad. Good job by MacT as well, it's time to pass the torch, and Horcs had to go. Didn't get anything of use, but it didn't cost nothing. Now let's get Dubinsky.

Agreed. Certainly not at $5.5 though, which was my only red flag. Something about him always made me nervous though about him in the room. Not throwing stones now that he's gone - as a fan he never really had my trust...that's probably a better way to put it.

I like both Clowe and Clarkson as 2nd liners. Problem is they are going to get paid like 1st liners.

MacAurthur is 3rd liner at best.

While not exactly true, he is a glorified tweener between the 2nd and 3rd line because he goes on insane scoring streaks balanced by insane cold streaks. If he wasn't a face puncher he wouldn't be much more than Dustin Penner

Clowe on the 2nd line. MacArthur on the 3rd with Gordon and PRV, Then Lapierre on the 4th with Jonesy and Brown?

Dmen are at a premium in the NHL. Regher with his almost no points was worth two second round picks at the trade deadline. I am thinking solid dmen like Smid and Schultz would be worth at least that. We underrate them but they are among the top in blocking shots. Plus they are smart veteran players. I don't like the idea of Smid going as he is a big guy. I would like to see more of those on our blue line before we let him go.

I think clowe would do 4-4.5 for 3 years
