It was good....but Sather trading Gomez and his 7 million for McDunough (sp?), was much, much more impressive. - Jeropotato
You are correct. At least Gomez was 28 years old at the time, though, coming off a 58-point season. You could at least pretend in that one, if you tried really, really hard, that you might get a few more 60-point seasons.
This deal...wow. Congratulations to the Oilers. Again, I got nothing negative to say about that. |

Works for Dalls though. Overpaid, but still a good 3C. Dallas added Nish,Seguin,Horcoff and Peverly this week and only lost Prospects and Erikson. - Jeropotato
ya but too expensive, and the oil were willing to buy him out. WAY TOO BIG of a payment for him. should have been Horks and a 2nd. |

What would Oilers fans think of this deal? Scott Laughton/Sean Couturier, Brayden Coburn, and throw in a 2nd rounder for Justin Schultz - DavidQFlyersFan
i would hope oilers fans would jump ALL (frank)ING OVER THAT.......why the hell would philly give up that much for schultz?
kid is good, no doubt, but he's already 3 years older than couts. other than the cap relief, that's a TERRIBLE deal for philly, imo |

This this like when u said Shinkaruk dropped in the draft because he is a weak skater. As always great analysis skippy - Bieksa#3
I didn't say that. I just posted what was written by a couple scouts. They also said he had a poor attitude and was small....I guess I was wrong about that too? He'll fit right in with Vancouver and their douchecanoe fan base.... |

just because clouts has been ragging on this guy for 3 years, doesn't mean he's not going to bring something valuable to the stars. horrible contract, definitely, but if you don't think the oilers on-ice got worse today, then I disagree with you. |

Ya....Philly would want no part of that deal... |

not even an issue, our core is locked up and we still have alot of cap space, horcoff and gonchar will be gone when we need to re up a few players. i actually like horcoff on our 4th line. upgrade on fiddler and nystrom. and i got a laugh out of the 2016 7thrd pick. larsen will never be an everyday nhler - NoobasaurusRex
oh, i wasn't disputing the trade. horcoff is actually a pretty serviceable player, and at this point it's only his cap hit that's high (deal was pretty front loaded).
was just pointing out that it's a poop TON of cap space to waste on a 4th liner and a 40 year old pylon. |

I know...but that's the Sather magic...it's kinda like drinking Gin, don't feel like much right away and then you wake up in the bushes with your pants around your ankles and someone else's underwear on. |

Close but not going to happen. Schultz is going to be our defense in the next few years. You don't trade players like that. |

how is it close. philly is getting destroyed in that trade, it's BRUTALLY one-sided in favour of edmonton. |

I don't think they really want to spend to the cap, at least in terms of real dollars, so it is probably ok, but I am just speculating. |

they're only about 6 mil under the cap right now, and still have a few roster spots to fill. unless they move someone out, the stars are gonna be right up against the cap |

I'm not a Cockburn fan, but that deal is very much in Edmontons favour. |

Yeah we lost a player but gained a potential dman to replace Potter. Plus Horcoff is going allow us to sign FA. Despite what people think, players want to come play with these kids. We have a bright future. Schultz is a great example of how players view this team. Not all of them are going to want to play here but we can fill our bottom 6 and a backup with the cap room we have. |

Yeah, I dont think it will that hard either...as long as we stay the (frank) away from Peter (frank)ing Meuller. |

Larsen is not better than Potter. Potter at his price is actually a great #7 guy. Can play some easy minutes and has a bomb shot. Best shot on our whole D line. |

Today it is but Edmonton has to think about things like Schultz wanting to be here long term. He picked the Oil. The other players can leave in a couple years if we make the trade. Plus a 1-2 dman is almost impossible to pick up. You can find a 3-4 like coburn and even top forwards. Dmen are tough to come by. |

The 5.5 mill in extra cap space can go a long way to making them better on the ice.
