Gillis is pretty bad. He has a goalie that doesn't want to play there. A back up in Lack who sucks. Now he has 5 mil to sign 5 players (TSN article today too lazy to post the link). That is just to make a full roster. Not to mention their Second line is comprised of just Kesler. Maybe Booth if he comes back. It doesn't get much worse than that. Edlers contract extension this year was silly. They could have signed him for a lot less. Schneider for a first overall pick was also bad. He was offered more by several teams but wanted him in a different conference. I am sorry but when you are in that bad of shape, you take the best offer.

He has 7mil for 4 to hit 20 players.

I'm sure Luongo will come around. He didn't want to be a Canuck initially when they traded for him too. Lack was very good in the AHL until he hurt his hip and tried playing through it for a bit.

The second line, relying on healthy players, will likely be Burrows/Higgins/Booth/Kassian around Kesler. Thats not that bad considering that Kesler is the problem of the second line anyway

Edler makes 5 mil and for all his Bambi moments I'll take Edler at 5 mil over guys like Carle, Striet, Wideman, Wisniewski, Gonchar, Markov, Bfuglien, Green and Burns who are just a few that make more than he does and are most of them are significantly significantly worse players.

I never heard an offer that he got for Luongo outside of Toronto. That Edmonton one was Vancouver's asking price.

I like him for his ability to work with Paajarvi. 3 lines of scoring. Antropov is still my favorite for that position though.

3rd line needs to be our shut down line. Who do you propose plays RW with MPS and Antropov?

Well it worked for Messier. He moved from LW to C.
Hall is a great passer and has more than his fair share of assists.
His FO% last year was 0.547.
And playing center keeps him from going too wildly into the corner and getting hurt.
Having him injured hurts us bad so overall might be a serious option especially if we can'y sign Gags at a reasonable price. And since we haven't already signed Gags...

- redwolf

Much different Players though. Messier had all of HAlls attributes combined with all of Mike Peca's.

Oilers got better by trading Horcoff away, now just watch MacT do his magic tomorrow, then everyone will stop whining "why trade Horcoff,Oilers don't have enough centers blah blah blah".

Antropov can't skate and is not very good defensively.

A lot of teams rock 21-22. A lot of nights last year the Canucks played with only one spare up in the press box.

And all he has to fill out is the bottom of the roster because the core is all locked up.

So you given me one example and I have cited Messier. Hall strikes me as being more like Mess and less like Kane.

Gillis isn't that bad of a GM. He's not the best in the league but honestly, after pretty much Wilson, Armstrong (he's the St.Louis guy right?), Poile and Mafia Lou, most are pretty average.

Then you have the Nonis', Feaster's and Regier's who plain suck

I like Nystrom, Stalberg, Cleary, Clowe... there are more but that type of guy. Big, fast and can hit. This would be a great shut down line. We just have to teach Paajarvi to hit more. Antropov is already there.

Good luck with that. 4.2 mil for a third line center. I HOPE we can do better than that.

Way better idea that that gem you came up with...Grabovski? Terrible in a checking role at any money.

With those guys you're either getting speed or hitting, and in Cleary's case you aren't getting much of either.

Except he's a huge possession driver and having the puck is a good quality for a shutdown line.

Grabovski is very underrated defensively.

We can agree to disagree and if MacT signs us a decent center then the whole thread is moot but until then...

Spends money foolishly, but always finds a way to get out of a jam. Wins 90% of his trades. He's still pretty amazing, even with the old school tactics. Gotta give him a pass for the first 4 years in New York because ownership their meddle too mmuch, but his real magic was in Edmonton in the late 90's with a shoe string budget.
