It's ridiculous isn't it? 6mm for this guy? I want to see the team that signs him to this contract. - GioRock

He had the abberation of a season, where he scored 30 goals. That season is what will allow him to cash in today.
He is a third line player, seocnd liner on a bad team. |

Come on, Richards is almost a point per game player in his career. His worst season, of probably his career, was this lockout shortened season. I understand you aren't a fan but Richards has been a top tier center for the majority of his time in the NHL. |

The only saving grace is Brad can still be bought out again next year. Hoping the Rangers bought that bubble for him. He ain't leaving his house on the weekends. |

he brings a lot of intangibles and size though. i'd love him on the rangers for 3 mil or less but 6 mil...GTFO. |

Actually, I always felt that if Avery wasn't such a freakin head case, Clarkson would be a poor mans Avery. That boy wasted his skills. |

In terms of a contract extension, Lundqvist said that he has spoken with the Rangers about it and said, via google translate, “I hope we … yes, we’ll find a solution.” |

My objection to not buying Richards out, is purely based on good business. Has nothing to do with Richards the player, who I have always liked. The Rangers are telling us, "we good enough to win". I say they're not, has nothing to do with over paying for anyone today. |

nobody we could get to replace him with would put us in a better position to win though in my opinion. |

He is a good depth guy for sure; if what you suggested was his actual asking price than that's a good deal.
But anything over four million per is absolutely a joke. |

Flyers are trying to package Couturier with Meszaros, they are never going to learn, how much turnover is necessary and with the little space they'll have they can kiss Read goodbye next year |

There is nobody available, on this UFA market, that would have increased their chances of winning.
You're telling me Horton, Weiss, Ribeiro or Bozak is better than Richards? I call BS if you do. |

The Philadelphia Flyers: The Boys of Summer.
That should be their new nickname because they only seemed concerned about winning the offseason headline wars; not actually properly managing a hockey team. |

in 2006, the Flyers used two compliance buyouts, buying out Amonte and LeClair, I didn't remember that until I saw it listed yesterday. |

Understood. Probably can't. They're telling you they're good enough to win with him. Fact is, if they bought him out, he would sign today with another club maybe even the Devils or Islanders for another attractive contract. You want to make that the reason they are keeping him, I'm all for it. But, don't tell me you're good enough, cause they are not. |

The players you listed with the exception of Ribeiro are very different than Richards. Are any of them worth 6.6 mil a year? No. |

They're telling you that there is nobody out there that can help this team better than Richards. That isn't telling the fans they think that they are the favorites to win the cup, with their current team, they feel there is no point in exploring another free agent mistake.
I would rather Richards than any supposed top free agent center. Plus, Richards is bascially playing on a one year contract. Any player that will be signed today will be so for multiple seasons. Rangers only have one more compliance buyout and they are going to use it on Richards next summer.
Why further complicate matters by buying Richards out and possibly offering another regrettable contract to an unworthy player? |

Supposedly Kane or Ryan, I can't imagine how they think they can fit that under the cap |

Right but these are the supposed gem centers on this market. Horton is going to get six million per, Weiss will get somewhere between 5 and 6 million per, Ribeiro is asking for five million per and Bozak wants five million per. All with less annually but here's the catch, they all want at least five year deals.
Richards' deal will not go beyond this upcoming season. Let the Flyers deal with being cap f*cked for years on end. Once Richards's deal is off the books, they won't have any bad contracts on the team. |

Flyers are likely to bring back Emery for a second stint, gut feeling it'll be no different than the 1st, Flyers are no Hawks |

Sorry. when asked why he didn't buy Richards out Sather said "we're good enough to win". Now, when you ask a GM are you good enough to win, I assume they're talking about winning the cup, why else would they be there? |
