Sorry. when asked why he didn't buy Richards out Sather said "we're good enough to win". Now, when you ask a GM are you good enough to win, I assume they're talking about winning the cup, why else would they be there? - OLDSCHOOL#6
Nothing wrong with having confidence in the group you currently have. I am sorry but I would rather see the Rangers tweak the roster, instead of making an enormous mistake by splurging in this weak UFA market.
Buying out Richards would have allowed Sather to spend with aplomb today. As we all know, that is not a good thing. |

Understood. Probably can't. They're telling you they're good enough to win with him. Fact is, if they bought him out, he would sign today with another club maybe even the Devils or Islanders for another attractive contract. You want to make that the reason they are keeping him, I'm all for it. But, don't tell me you're good enough, cause they are not. - OLDSCHOOL#6
This team has holes, needs to get bigger, tougher, they need more scoring up top, and a right handed d-man. Do I think they're better than they showed under Tortorella at times last year? Yes. Are they good enough to win it all, I don't know if the team stays like this. If this is how this offseason is going to go, Sather better pray AV makes that much of a difference. |

That notion that a team needs to be big and tough to win is nonsense. Hawks were one of the smaller teams in the league and they won. Obviously they are an extremely talented group and while I do agree that the Rangers are by no means a favorite to win a division, let alone win the cup, I do think that this team is not in need of a serious overhaul. They need to tinker with the roster not give it another makeover, a la last summer. |

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 57s
Another interesting angle: will there be offer sheets on RFAs. With cap going down, inability to hide $ in minors, teams may be vulnerable.

They have also won two cups with Antti Niemi and Cory Crawford in goal. What does that mean for Lundqvist contract? |

I'm not saying a complete overhaul, there are some great pieces in place, I agree with you. I do feel you need at least one guy that's going to grind and is big, stay in front of the net. Like a Franzen, Lucic etc. Playoffs are a totally different game IMO, lots of board play, grinding. Those are the guys that excel a lot of the time, Rangers don't have anyone like that.
Something that always bothers me, I watch these games with some other teams and if you go near their goalie and you're getting punched, head locked etc... Go by Hank, a Ranger holds you or pushes you. Maybe its just the mentality I'm looking for a change in but something little like that drives me nuts. |

And if you look at the Philly roster I posted, by not spending money in goal you can look as though you spending like a drunken sailor on the rest of the team. I am hoping Hank realizes this and doesn't cripple us with a contract. |

I would love to see Lundqvist walk and I would to see try to defend the man who replaced him. Whether the replacement be on the cheap or not. The Rangers would be worse off, that I can guarantee you. |

Lundqvist will get his money and he looks like he wants no part of leaving. Besides, once Richards' salary is off the books, amongst several other current players and the cap increasing in 2-15-15, the Rangers will have the space to address any needs they might be lacking. |
