I don't see why a team commits more than 5 yrs to any player. Even Malkin and Crosby with their concussion history. Such a high risk

Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, both 28, getting 8 yr deals is the definition of depreciating assets. For 1, maybe 2 yrs, they will honor the contract. From there? Who knows, but I can't see them getting better to earn 8+m a yr.

Small market teams don't have a choice but to sign their star players to eight year contracts. Only thing that entices them to stay.

Yeah that's a great trade for both potentially. Certainly that's a far better replacement for Horton than signing Clarkson or whatever they had in mind.

I love this move for Boston. Loui will help tremendously on the RW. He can play both ends of the ice. Hopefully it goes through
