All I know, is Carlyle got us into the playoffs and had to deal with the losing atmosphere, that Ron Wilson left behind. In doing so, he had to weed out the deadwood and Grabo was one of them. You might be surprised with Weiss, given that he's never had much in the way of star players, playing on his wing. - PrinceLH
meh. wouldn't mind him as a second line center, but i think it's pointless to waste a buyout on a 2nd line center to make room for him if that's how it pans out.
weiss isn't a first line center. it would be the same mentality the leafs have used with bozak, expecting a player to be better at a position than he is, and expecting big results from it.
at least they'd be consistent. |

If they ice:
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
I could see everybody on that line scoring 25G+.
that's why I don't mind Weiss now.

he'd laugh that offer out of the room.
made $3M each of the last 2 years. Conversation starts at $5M, and he's worth it. - Big_Lightnin
and i would open the door for him.
he's a second liner at his best, and a third liner otherwise. foolish to think of giving someone that much money when they'll most likely be back to their average 3rd year production not so long after signing the contract. |

Pass on Iggy. He'd require way too much to come here and he has lost a step or four. |

Clarkson gets 5.5 to play on the 3rd line? - Jurco_28
Im fine with that. There will be injuries for him to play a larger role, and right now 5.5 is an assumption and guess. Its not a fact, so im not going to waste my time on that aspect of it. |

Grabo could score some points. He was poor defensively. He could not win enough faceoffs. He's often getting hit and knocked down, instead of hitting people and knocking them down. He had it coming, after holding the Leafs feet to the fire, during his last contract session. No hometown discount, to help the Leafs get better, through cap management. Glad that he's out of here. Lets get some hometown guys, with pride in playing for their home team. Clarkson and Weiss fit that bill.

Again, someone asked our perfect day for tomorrow. Mine was Iginla for two years tops. Considering our lack of grit up front, and veteran leadership, we could do a lot worse than Iggy in a short window. |

carlyle did well with the team as a hole. the grabovski thing is his doing, but it's on nonis at the end of the day. he as the power to listen to his coach, or tell him it's not smart to buy him out, and to sort it out.
especially considering the same move could have been made next summer.
i'm almost willing to bet the move was made so clarkson and weiss could split 11-12 million.
this time tomorrow we'll be asking why the (frank) weiss was handed a contract almost similar the one grabovski was just bought out of. - joel878
cause he's a better fit at #1C than Bozak or Grabo...
I was a big Grabo fan, but he's not a #1C, but was the highest paid C on the team. I know why he got that contract, but it didn't fit anymore.
Weiss isn't my ideal, but he's better than before. For same money, it's an improvement.

I hear ya. But you know Nonis is thinking it.
It's either him, Stastny or Bozak most likely. I hate the idea of any of them as our #1 C, to be quite honest. |

Our #1C is not going to be a #1C in all probability. Unless some unforseen player is available. |

weiss is a #2 C, itll be another grabobski situation. asking a player to play at a higher level then he can. |

well, i'm not on that page with grabovski. but regardless, i guess the question is, are we really going to expect better defensive play from weiss? can't burn one guy for it, and open the door for another with the same breath.
clarkson is this summers early buyout candidate. at 6.5 mil, he'll make ville leino look like a steal. |

looking that way I'm afraid...
unless there's a deal with Colorado to send Liles back and retain some salary. Liles at $2.5M is much more attractive to teams.
have to figure 1 of O'Reilly or Stastny gets traded very soon. McKinnon will play NHL next year, and he should probably play Center. |
