Not a Leafs fan, but I'd rather have Bozak than Weiss, nothing against Weiss, but Bozak is stupid putting the gun to Nonis's head like that, he's a good fit here, another team may not be so comfortable.
Clarkson isn't worth $6 million, (or $5 million) $4-$4.25 yes, he shouldn't get much more than Simmonds in Philly, they are comparable players - puckhead17
not really comparable. Simmonds was coming off ELC and signed a long term extension. Clarkson is UFA. |

there's one constant on free agent day, players get stupidly overpaid. when's the last big ticket free agent that signed a 'value' deal during unrestricted free agency?
especially as weak as this years group is. - joel878
yes, it's weak, but, it's bulked up somewhat with the buyouts, Briere, Lecalvier, Grabovski, there's 3 jobs alone that may affect a UFA with a bad asking price, as well with a diminishing cap |

Clarkson's not signing a 3 year deal. More likely a 7 year deal. - Big_Lightnin

you think someone gets a deal on Grabo, like 3/4 mill a year contract? - Jurco_28
oh hell ya. He'll sign for like 3-4 years, $3.5-$4M and probably put up 25G 55pts next year.
I could see him signing in Detroit honestly. |

Probably 4.25, what he should have been paid here, last year. I'm glad that he's gone. He didn't fit the Leafs mold, going forward. I can live with Weiss and Clarkson, as long as they scrounge up a decent top 4 defenseman to go along with them. Ference anyone? |

I hope this is won't happen. This is why Dallas Eakins should have been given the job when they fired RW. Carlyle screwed Grabs and Toronto on this one for sure. I wonder what the (frank) he was thinking. - TML4Life85
carlyle did well with the team as a hole. the grabovski thing is his doing, but it's on nonis at the end of the day. he as the power to listen to his coach, or tell him it's not smart to buy him out, and to sort it out.
especially considering the same move could have been made next summer.
i'm almost willing to bet the move was made so clarkson and weiss could split 11-12 million.
this time tomorrow we'll be asking why the (frank) weiss was handed a contract almost similar the one grabovski was just bought out of. |

timing of the Grabo buyout tells me they are signing 2 big contracts tomorrow. OR a trade where they retain like $1.5M of Liles salary or something.
gonna be a hell of a day.
Clarkson in Edmonton today though - not loving that. But hey if Leafs don't get him, much rather he's out West than in Ottawa (met with Murray too) |

ya that could work too.
Just said Vancouver cause I could see him staying in Canada if he has the chance... loves that his kids are Canadian, and he's getting married tomorrow.
Calgary perhaps as well. |

All I know, is Carlyle got us into the playoffs and had to deal with the losing atmosphere, that Ron Wilson left behind. In doing so, he had to weed out the deadwood and Grabo was one of them. You might be surprised with Weiss, given that he's never had much in the way of star players, playing on his wing. |

No worries.
To me, Iginla for 2 yrs and Clarkson for 3yrs would be a perfect day tomorrow. Iggy can score, brings a badly needed vet, and plus a tough game. Clarkson plays tough and can chip in about 15-20 goals on a good season and will fight the odd fight. Fills the need for leadership and size on the team. |

yeah, i don't share your feelings on that one.
i'll be happy if he signs anywhere else the second the numbers say he got anything more than 3.5-4 for 3-4 years |

Sorry, but if the choice is between Carlyle and Grabovski, I'm going with Carlyle every time.
He's got his name on the Norris Trophy and the Stanley Cup. If Grabo can't work in his system, that's Grabo's problem. |

If they ice:
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
I could see everybody on that line scoring 25G+.
that's why I don't mind Weiss now.

He's allot like Garry Roberts. Hits, fights and scores a few goals. His leadership will be invaluable and that's the intangible that many on here don't realize. There is a major change in attitude happening, in the Leafs dressing room. Hence the need to add players like Bolland and Clarkson. There will be no third period collapses on their watch.

TORONTO -- Devils right winger David Clarkson loves coming home to Toronto.
"This is my favorite place to play," he said of the town in which he grew up as a Maple Leafs fan.
But will Clarkson, who can become an unrestricted free agent after this season, think about signing with the Leafs to play in his hometown? He gets asked that a lot around here.
"You always have people who'll ask you things and say things," Clarkson said. "My focus is winning and doing what we did last year. I leave all that other stuff to (agent) Pat Morris. I just go out and play. Everything else is second to me. I want this team to be successful.
"My focus right now is right here (with the Devils). We've got to get this turned around. We have something special in here. I want to win. All those other things will fall into place in summertime."
But he loves coming home.
"I do. It's the place I was born and raised. It's always fun to come home," Clarkson said. "I grew up watching every one of these games with my dad, so whenever you get to come home and play against the place you're from is always fun."
He got to play in the old Maple Leaf Gardens in a charity game during the NHL lockout.
"I spent a lot of time at Maple Leafs Gardens in those seats with my dad cheering for the leafs so it was cool to get a chance to play there," he said. "This summer when they had the event it was something that meant a lot to me because of that."
Clarkson always seems to have a big game in Toronto. Last season he scored three goals in Air Canada Center, one an overtime goal. In 10 career games in Toronto he has six goals.
"I don't know why. I think you try in every game you play and try to play the same way and have that big game. I don't know if it's being back in my hometown or what it is," he said. "I definitely enjoy coming back here."
