chiarelli didn't think so...they gave up a lot of years of younger, cheaper contract years to get Eriksson instead of Seguin...something made them drop a lotto pick centre at age 21 pretty fast
- Zezel

you're right. a gm couldn't possibly make a bad move, that's impossible.

i don't know how you figure they gave up a cheaper contract. eriksson makes 4.25 a season. seguin 5.75.

Boston also got rid of Peverley's 3M+ contract.. so in short Boston removed close to 9M from their CAP and added back about 6M.

saying Seguin is a lot younger...wondering why the Bruins trade a 2nd overall pick centre if those first contract years of super elite high draft pick centres are the rarest commodities..

Lucic was a healthy scratch this year, a $6 million a year player? newly freshly signed at that, don't get me wrong they did a lot of things right in building their lineup, but i don't think they handled this Seiguin thing right, although Eriksson is a nice player, they also had to purge salary
- puckhead17

Yeah and because they have depth they can afford to make that trade.

because those first contract years are over.

boston made about 4.5 mil in space with the trade.

cause they already had 2 centers under 30 who are way better than him right now... and can't afford his cap hit as a 3C.

his 1st contract is over, he's signed at $5.75M for next 6 years starting tomorrow.

Clarkson's not signing a 3 year deal. More likely a 7 year deal.

actually, I could see Clarkson maybe looking at Boston, especially since they shed Seguin
Peverly Horton, (almost $13 million).

they can't afford him anymore than they can't afford Horton, or Seguin.

Rask is demanding like $6.5M or more

that was his first mistake.

we're trying to find logic in a trade where the gm publicly points to issues beforehand?

chiarelli's an idiot.. dallas is thanking him for it, and will be for a lot of years.

Maybe not, they shed 3 players $13 mill, took in Eriksson a little over $4 mill, maybe, they netted about $9 million, I knew Horton would leave, but Peverly can play in your top 6 in the right system, so maybe

Sign Clarkson, a good Dman and center. Any moves that make the team bigger, grittier and better defensively will be fine with me.

so basically dallas won by getting seguin, boston won by getting rid of seguin, and the Leafs lost by losing Seguin
