Hardly Albatross at all.
5.5 for a second line centre....is reasonable.
Heck just wait to see what weiss and bozak get.

Bozak is a third liner!!!!

The bar has been set with centers........ Thank you Vinny

If that is the case, I would have preferred we burned a compliance buyout on Bozak instead.

Yeah, I'd rather use up one to buy out the final day of Bozak's contract than re-sign him.

- Atomic Wedgie

why do you hate him so much?

bye bye grabo
- Mapleleafs_91

i smell a blockbuster coming

seems like a very rash decision without something major in the works.

this coming from a guy who all but gave up on grabo.. .jsut seems pointless to buy him out without giving him another chance without a serious upgrade in the works

or.... seguin?

This is funny. And great news for the NHL...someone was bound to overpay for Bozak and now Grabs is available on the cheap.

We'll only know if this is a good or bad move once all the dust settles.
If Nonis has some other plans in place (trade, free agents) and needed to do this in order to get those plans done - then everyone might be very happy.

If he did this just to resign Bozak and get some other MEH piece then it will have been a stupid move...only time will tell.

Nonis seemed confident Grabo was coming back on Sunday. Wonder if something popped up via trade for 1c. Only hope at this point.

Yes.

That dimension is called 'offense'.

Seriously dude, don't even begin to say Grabo in the same breath as Kessel.

I guess so. Sure sounded like grabo would get another year in the #2 spot. Can't see them buying him out if they don't have some thing locked up at this point.

Can't believe they couldn't even get a late pick for the guy...
- ThePresident

I know. He's still a good player and always gives a great effort. They should have been able to get something for him. I don't know if his health is still a concern.

Unless they have a trade lined up for Liles to go somewhere or some other defenceman and Liles will actually be on the roster. Otherwise it's kind of a strange approach.

Liles is the most buyout worthy candidate because of his term, price and that he wasn't playing. If they trade him or he's going to be playing I don't have as much of a problem with not using the compliance buyout on him instead.

- deerow84

Whilw I'm not a big Liles fan, he's not a hinderence. Komi & Grabbo are hinderences in their own way. They needed to be bought out. Wow, Leafs have now freed up almost an extra $10 mill on the cap.

Hmmm, perhaps Nonis is working on something huge. He could have saved 1 buy out on Komi & send Komi to the Marlies for Komi's last year on his contract. Perhaps Nonis needs Komi's cap space this year for something in the works.
Mabie he's going to sign 2 big free agents? Clarkson & somebody else???

Yes I think we all agree on that. Smart move to dump Grabbo but NOT for over paying Bozak. That's one step forward 2 steps back, especially the term Bozak wants,
- GCHonda

I think we can bank on the idea that this means someone is getting overpaid. If nothing else, we know that.

It's no longer two holes.

Kadri is the #2 until he is ready for the #1.

Bolland is the #3.

McClement is the #4

Colborne is the guy who will see action at 2-4 to fill in for injuries.

We remain a team without a #1 centre.

Guess what?

Blowzak doesn't cure that ailment.

Making a play to make a trade with Philly? They have some serious cap issues and depth at center. B Schenn maybe...he could be 1C soon.

Well if he overpays Weiss or Ribeiro it's not much better. I'm hoping it's to bring in a highly paid but legitimate top line centre and not a couple of mediocre guys that you have to pay top dollar because they are UFAs.
- deerow84

If we manage to snag Ribiero and Clarkson, you add that up with Bolland, and our forwards are signficantly better than last year.

Like, OHMYGOD, not even close kinda better.
