they're gettings pretty stacked up front with McKinnon, Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly... maybe they anticipate a bump in his numbers and a higher value. but who plays defence for them? and who's their goalie? Varlamov?

They are stacked with young forward talent, especially center talent. I wonder if they still think Varlamov is their guy? He might be...

We have a D surplus I've been saying for over a year how we should work something out.

Same reason Apple doesn't raise their prices often, it pisses customers off. When they do raise it they'll raise it just a bit more than they were going too. And prices have risen over the last eight years.

Ok so let's debate the needs. IMO #1 need and has been for awhile is a player who plays in your top six, can shake off the mitts, and can play the physical game against big division rivals. Clarkson not only does this but has two solid scoring seasons that are current not in the past.
