If Lou was willing to give 5.5 to Elias, my guess is that he was willing to give Clarkson $4.5 to $5 million and he turned it down.

So that's your starting point. Add a million or so for UFA, and yup, 6 it is.

These are the mistakes of the last year in my opinon...

When Wilson was fired Eakins should have been the next guy, I like Carlyle and his pedigree but when you have a coach that good with young talent you give him a chance before someone else does!

Burke, maybe he should have been fired, maybe not. But the timing was horrible.

Grabo contact, 5.5 for 5 years when Patrice Bergeron made 5 per year?

Why could Oil get an asset for Horcoff but we couldn't for Grabs?

He was in Ottawa earlier today, man he must be racking up the frequent flyer miles. PS. Grabo's comments won't cost him a job in the NHL at all. Carlyle's a great coach, but many in the hockey community wonder what the heck he was trying to do with Grabo this season. Thing is, Carlyle didn't do it to him because he thought he was a crap player, he did it because he saw a lot of Pahlson in him. Either way, Grabo will land somewhere and do just fine. I wish him luck, 5.5M was always going to be too much.

He was never going to fit into our plans here. He had no place at basically any salary figure.

I disagree we are still paying him 5.5 per year... Every time we buy a ticket to a game, jersey and so on.

I also don't like it in the terms that we have 3 holes in center at this point, this is only going to drive the price up for Kadri and Bozak.

Some team will give him a contract, and it could very well be a divisional or conference rival.
