No, you're right. For sure. He was used in a spot he shouldn't have, simply because we didn't have anyone else to do it.
You keep him in an offensive role and he'd be fine.
Second line C in Detroit? He'd be fine.

Grabovski comments? Explains everything... and good luck signing another long-term deal if that's the case. Kostitsyn 2.0.

I agree, he has to be top 6, his role just didn't exist here now. The leafs are definitely keeping kadri, and look to be re-signing bozak or another playmaker for the top line plus Colburne, McClement and Bolland give us decent center depth. Now Nonis has a lot more flexibility to upgrade other positions.

What I didn't get is that now that Bozak is gone, Grabo would have been in the top 6 again.
So that leads me to believe that we are going for a trade, I hope, to bring in a decent 1C.
To me, it just doesn't make sense to buy-out grabo but then bring in a guy like Weiss, who isn't all that much better in the first place, for almost the same price.

I really think Nonis has something up his sleeve. I liked Grabo a lot, but I will reserve judgement until after what we bring in.

'i hope you enjoy the beach in florida'

that doesn't sound like a mean thing to say to someone. not even close.

For most players, it probably isn't.

I'm sure he will enjoy his new home in the South. He just strikes me as the type that would end up there, mostly because a contender doesn't have a place for him.

At the end of the day it wasn't Nonis who signed Grabs to that deal, it was BB. The front office is different now, and while I understand he had health problems, he's paid the big bucks to be the go-to guy. And depsite what he thinks of RC, he's won a cup, and you couldn't be that player for him. He'll make it work somewhere else.

Weiss scares the hell out of me.

If he's a Leaf tomorrow, people will look a lot more favorably upon Bozak.

Who's to say he's not? Had a down season, if he wasn't a headcase, he'd have another chance to redeem himself:

Arctic Ice Hockey ‏@arcticicehockey 6h
Grabovski has scored more goals than Kopitar, Richards, Duchene, Datsyuk, Lecavalier, Berglund, Bergeron, Seguin, Eberle over last 3 yrs.

Unfortunately, I think Grabs is Kostitsyn 2.0 and probably shot himself in the foot with those comments; me thinks he's KHL bound.

At the end of the day, he just didn't fit the new system and we just had to get that contract off the books.

For perspective, Kessel made 500k less than Grabo last year. How do the Leafs keep salaries low in negotiations with Grabo's 5.5 as a measuring stick?

I personally think he is better than Bozak. He has at least 2 maybe 3 60 + point seasons under his belt.

We'd just end up giving Grabo's money to Weiss, which is a lateral move even if everything goes well.

He'll get 5 for 5 or something. Yikes.

Good point.

Unfortunately I think part of this is to bring Bozak back down to earth so they can resign him. Seeing how Newport Sports Management represents both Bozak and Kessel, I wouldn't be surprised if there's "no Bozak, no Kessel" leverage in there.
