Clarification on free agent window, All teams received a memo from the NHL this afternoon stating No negotiation or verbal offers allowed.
So teams are allowed to talk to players, but not discuss contracts, or anything like that.
I'm sure Nonis is just calling Ribeiro to ask what the weather's like. - Feeling Glucky?
What the (frank) did Bettmen think would happen if you give teams two days to talk UFA's, is he that dense? |

I doubt the trade is straight up Loui for Tyler, so we will see...
Here's a good question: who would you rather have, Kessel or Eriksson...?
I say Kessel... but I haven't seen much of Loui.... - Hockey_Reverend

Does trading a 28 year old d-man with 25 minutes, capable of 200 hits and 40 points straight up for a 27 year old 40-50 point centre make sense? It doesn't to me. - mykokes
I totally agree with you that phaneuf for stastny is not a good deal for the leafs
But stastny is a center we should target. He's everything Bozak is right now but also has a way higher ceiling of potential. We are basically at Bozak's potential right now. He is either going to stay at the level he is now or decline.
We could also probably resign stastny for a similar long term contract next year to what bozak wants now as long as he has a good season. |

i don't know if it was boston that misused him or his real immaturity. I don't know what went on behind closed doors but i would really hang on to him if I were boston - Nastradamus
Dallas has to get him back to center to have a shot at winning this trade.
Boston used him as a third line winger. That's a horrible use of potential. In fairness to Boston, he didn't really earn a place at center, either. |

If a career 3rd liner who got run over last season was acquired to play in a scoring role, instead of a center who has scored the 13th most goals since 2010, so that they could push a 21 year old with one good half season into a 1st line role then you might as well already start researching the top prospects for next year's draft. - toskala4vezina
and where would any of the centers in question be lined up in CHI, if the roles were reversed? |

Bozak. - honesthockey
I have said numerous times now, how does Kadri not sit back and demand a big fat new contract now? I know he is not a UFA, but all he has to do is hold fast, and threaten about a potential offer sheet.
I hope Nonis has a plan in place for a 1C or 2C to replace Grabo immediately at a good price. Just can't see what that is. |

If you take Kessel, you do it because he's younger, and has elite offensive talents.
If you take Eriksson, it's because you believe his defensive game on top of his offensive game outweighs what Kessel's offensive game can become.
Honestly, the latter may be true. |

yes.. he tries to carry the line a bit much.
but considering this move leaves the leafs pretty damn short at centre my guess is there is a UFA deal already in place (like leafman says) or a trade is in place.
it wouldnt make sense to jettison a centre which would effectively give another centre more power at the bargaining table
like i said.. i will wait n see.. i wont jump to any conclusions because only a fool would think the leafs are standing pat at this point |

I don't know if we really win with the Grabo buy out though, unless they bring in someone substantially better

In fairness to Tyler seguin, him and John Tavares had the exact same stat line in their second NHL seasons with seguin at center.
He'll be a good player in this league, and I'm willing to bet better than any player Boston is getting back. |
