sending the qualifying offer only allows you to keep the players right as an RFA. Every RFA must be qualified, and thus anyone who has been offer sheeted has also been qualified. So I don't think so.

"Restricted (Group 2) NHL free agents can discuss new contracts with other teams beginning on the day after that season's entry draft, which is also the deadline for a team to make a qualifying offer. Discussions must cease if a player accepts a contract from his own team or is confirmed to go into arbitration with his team, be it player- or team-filed."

Ok, so I am a moron today. DAMMIT, going to stab my brain with a q-tip for that.

I truly hope we get Bernier and Nazem locked up quickly.
Also, I hope Nonis, has either some sort of trade ready to go because there really isnt a better C on the UFA market right now. It will be a lateral move.

He was qualified so he's RFA. all he did was reject the offer. You only need to make the qualifying offer to retain their rights.

Cause until Nonis shows we he was bought out (with a better move), I believe it was stupid to buy out grabo.

He compared Bozak to these guys:

Ilya Kovalchuk (15 years, $100 million)
Jordan Staal (10 years, $60 million)
Mikko Koivu (7 years, $47.25 million)
Jason Pominville (5 years, $26.5 million; signed as a restricted free agent)
Matt Duchene (2 years, $7 million; restricted)
Derek Stepan (3 years, $2.46 million; restricted)
Ryan Callahan (3 years, $12.8 million; restricted)
Claude Giroux (3 years, $11.25 million; restricted)

Oh wait, he went even further and compared him to these guys too:

Joe Thornton (3 years, $21 million)
Pavel Datsyuk (7 years, $46.9 million)
Travis Zajac (8 years, $46 million)
Vincent Lecavalier (11 years, $85 million before being bought out; signed with Flyers for 4 years, $22.5 million)
Patrice Bergeron (3 years, $15 million; restricted)
Jonathan Toews (5 years, $31.5 million; restricted)
David Krejci (3 years, $15.75 million; restricted)
Matt Duchene (2 years, $7 million; restricted)
Claude Giroux (3 years, $11.75 million; restricted)
Ryan O’Reilly (2 years, $10 million; restricted)
Anze Kopitar (7 years, $47.6 million; restricted)

Christ.

Essentially.

(frank), of course I'm (frank)ing mad, I (frank)ing played here for four years, I (frank)ing loved to play here. I'm (frank)ing pissed. They want me to score goals, they ride my (frank)ing ass to score goals, but put on the (frank)ing fourth line, of course I want to score (frank)ing goals. When you get no help from your coach of course you would be (frank)ing pissed.

While Kovalchuk has truly separated himself from the other UFAs from an offensive standpoint, can the same really be said about comparables like Staal and Koivu?

"To continue the comparison, "

"Koivu is another solid comparison"

"after his first three seasons he was comparable to Bozak. "

"Success in the faceoff circle is what originally led me to compare Bozak to Zajac"

"Zajac had 138 points in 244 games, compared to Bozak’s 134 in 238 games. "

Yeah, he totally didn't make any comparisons.

Call me silly but when you put a heading in an article called "list of comparables" I think you are comparing the subject of the article to the things under that heading.

But put that aside. He thinks Bozak is worth a 5 year 25 MM contract You could have stopped at the title.
