Forgot to mention that Poirier and Monahan were both invites to WJC.

The three guys I go after are Ribeiro, Raymond and Ference. Thoughts below of what we need and what each player brings.

1) Ribeiro - Brings some instant swagger along with a an attitude of being the number one guy. He does compliment players well but I think he likes the lime light and wants to be that go to guy somewhere, something we desperately need moving forward. 4-5 years @ 6mil. (spend big on this guy)

2) Raymond - Simply put this guy brings speed, agility and youth plus he is a local guy that would match the recent signings and seems to fit the Feaster bill of pride in work ethic and hockey smarts. 3 year @ 2.75 mil.

3) Ference - I think this was one of biggest loses the Flames organization had in recent memory (at least personally). He is a leader on and off the ice with a cup now under his belt and recent playing experience with Wideman in Boston. He would solidify our top 6D and instantly become a face for the franchise moving forward with numerous charitable and community outreach programs that he initiates.....Character/Depth pick up. 2 year @ 2.5 mil.

Everyone else maybe outside Filppula I would leave. These 3 signings would be huge and given recent signings/acquisitions I would then say we would have a depth team with tons of character and speed plus a little grit and size. It's actually quite intriguing to see Feaster's re-model and watch the direction the franchise is taking.

Riberio needs to go to a vet team, plain and simple.

Wink because you are married?

I dont know about that...I think he could do well with Calgary though hes not my top choice. I think Weiss would be a better short term solution personally.

Stay away from Bozak.

To me he is 2nd to 3rd line center, and we have loaded our team up with plenty of those. No need to overpay and take away opportunities for our young guys to step into those roles.

I would like to throw 3 years $4-5 mil on a guy who can slot into the #1 center role just to help us fill a hole and give us time to develop our young guys. We need a RW, and need another Defensemen.

I know we are in a rebuild, but you can't just play all these rookies we are not ready for NHL minutes. Of course you give them the opportunity to take the roles but if they are not ready, there is no need to waste ELC years.

C - Mike Ribeiro has the skill to help out our first line. He can also play with Baertschi and Hudler to at least keep us competitive. I would rather have Mike on a 2 year contract.

RW - Mason Raymond fits the bill for a guy to play RW NHL minutes. Our RW is extremely thin at the moment and who knows how many of the prospects are actually ready for NHL time. He is a guy who would LOVE to play in Calgary and would go great with the 4 guys we recently brought in who would also LOVE to play in Calgary.

D - Jonathan Blum or Andrew Ference is the guys I would look at on Defense. I would go straight after Blum and hope for the best. But more than likely we would go for the veteran defense incase our young defense needs some sheltered minutes.

This is sort of my feeling for the July 5th

A little much.....I would rather offer him 2 years @ 6.5 to be honest. More money, less term.

I would love to see Ference back here. Raymond would be a good fit as well.

For Calgary...fits Feasters role better in my opinion. Ribeiro, although has more scoring potential, isnt as strong between the ears as is a guy like Weiss. Plus from what Ive heard Stephen is a good locker room guy as well.

What are his chances he actually makes the team though? Always tough to tell with hockey Canada but he sounds like the type of guy that would fit into a bottom 6/PK role as apposed to sticking a "skilled" guy in the bottom 6. You know Sutter will build a "team" and not just take the most skilled players.

Looks like they have picked 17 forwards. I think Drouin and MacKinnon will both be in the NHL and McDavid is probably too young knowing how Hockey Canada is. The other guy who might be in the NHL is Monohan funny enough. But if the Flames are poop I could see them lending him to the Tourney.

Seems like Poirier will get a real good look though, hope he makes it!!

I hope Monahan doest play with the Flames his first year. I really do...proper development and earning a spot on a roster is very important to a successful career unless youre a Sidney Crosby

Monahan most likely won't be in the NHL next season.

Drouin and Mackinnon probably will be.

Flames centers most likely will be:

UFA Center
Cammy (If no UFA center)
Backlund
Stajan
Knight
Reinhart
Jones

Got a feeling Monahan will be on the WJC as the 2nd or 3rd line Center.

Knowing Brent Sutter.. Poirier will most likely be used on his energy line. Seems to fit that role to a tee.

As far as oshie goes, I think backlund would have to go back the other way. I don't really know what St. Louis needs.
- Boom.

First of all... bloggers & reporters need to stop going by websites that put a player in their system at whatever position they are drafted at and never update. Obviously example, the Ovechkin mess. But Oshie is an example as well. TJ Oshie is not a centerman. He played center in high school... then played 2 out of 3 years at UND as a RW (Toews was his center.) And you could basically count on one hand the number of periods he has played as a center in the NHL in the last 5 years.

Blues need a play-making center. Oshie could be moved for one... but Oshie is very popular in St. Louis. The return would need to be pretty attractive for it to happen. And the player coming back would need to be something proven, not someone with most of the value based on potential. Unless St. Louis scouts are just in love with Backlund... I don't see him being something they would trade Oshie for.

Fan960 talking like there is a possibility Raymond could have agreed to a deal with flames.

Not sure how credible that is though.

Although youre right with your comment, Oshie has all the abilities to play center and took 53 faceoffs in 2011-12 and wasnt too bad at it either. He could be utilited on the right wing or center position, in my opinion.

Great blog again Colin.

- Mike Ribeiro – 3 years @ $5.75M
- Derek Roy – 3 years @ $4.5M
- Clarke MacArthur – 2 years @ $2.75M
- Stephen Weiss – 4 years @ $5M
- Ian White – 2 years @ $3M
- David Clarkson – 5 years @ $5.75M
- Mason Raymond – 2 years @ $2.25M
- Andrew Ferrence – 1 year @ $3M
- Matt D’Agostini – 2 years @ $1.75M
- Tyler Bozak – 5 years @ $3.5M
- Chad Larose – 2 years @ $1.875

I'd take Ribero, and Ferrence at the prices you named. I'd drop Clarkson to 5yrs @ 5, or 3yrs at 5.75M. I'd pass on the rest.

- IggyOnly

I'll take White and Ribiero please. And Ference if he wants to come.
