You have 2 yrs to work out a new deal with Ryan and because you'd be getting him now you can work out an 8 yr deal.
Vanek either does a 8yr deal with Buffalo, a sign and trade 8 year deal with Buffalo, or gets a 7yr UFA deal.
Vanek is 29
Ryan is 26
Ryan does all the little things Vanek doesn't.
Ryan has 4 30+ goal seasons in his 5 full years (as 07/08 doesn't count as a season for him)
Vanek has 4 30+ goal seasons in 8yrs.
Bobby Ryan will get more of a return if traded now or at the upcoming deadline than Vanek will.
And I like Vanek. - dadeadhead
It's all point production I think. Vanek .83 points per game. Ryan .76. It's close very close but if you want to keep Vanek you need to get Ryan without giving up Myers. Myers can change the team single handed if he reverts back to his first two years

Here's a better way to look at it for you.
Would you take a deal of (type players) Ennis, Flynn, d prospect, and a 2nd for Vanek? |

CoHo is already better then Grabo currently never mind when he gets into his prime in a couple years - Pegullaville
Agreed but I still like Grabo as a player. I like CoHo he is one of my favorite players. I hope we get a deal done with him soon. |

They should as they have Kuba's listed as a regular buyout.
You could be right though. - dadeadhead
Thats because he was specifically announced that way. |

So you're working at that mess at Harris Hill and Wehrle? j/k
I go through there all the time. Will you please finish that soon. - mhp
Trying brother.
We just poured the Southeast quadrant yesterday. Tomorrow and Monday we will be getting a 2,000 foot stretch ready to pour hopefully on Tuesday heading east on Wehrle.
I'd say by the end of July everything within the project limits of the Wehrle/ Harris Hill site should be completed.
Excavation, new storm sewers and pipe work have taken the longest amount of time there.
It all lies on bedrock. Makes for tough excavation without the use of explosives, |

Fact is we really aren't going to get much more for him. Maybe the 2nd becomes a first but in all seriousness the crazy trade scenarios like Strome and such aren't going to happen even for Vanek |

Was just about to say that TSN has him listed as a compliance buyout. IDK, that seems like a waste to use compliance. |

IMO Bobby Ryan is a more complete player than Vanek and is a guy you build around if their line of thinking is younger and ready to compete in 3 yrs. Vanek is a compete now guy because we have the build around players already in place.

Couldn't trade him.
He would've cost around 525k on the cap to bury in the minors.
Saves 616,664 on the bottom line.
In honesty the Rudy experiment was over. Cut all ties and hope he gets picked up by another club. There is/was no room on the roster for him IMO. |

You are probably right about Ryan being a more complete player. But look at it this way:
Pommer got us a first a goalie that had very small NHL success and a maybe 3rd line center
Vanek and Ryan's return would be: top 6 forward (Ennis) a potential 2nd or 3rd line player (Flynn) a high rated d prospect and a draft pick. It's really not that far fetched. That's if the ducks are willing to move him. A package for Getzlaf would have to include Myers but I don't think you need to add Myers for Ryan |

Pommer was the more complete player over Vanek and if reports are true they called to inquire about Vanek and not Pommer at the deadline.
IMO they laugh if you call and offer a 2nd player, a 3rd/4th line player, a hopeful, and a 2nd rounder(shot in the dark as the avg 2nd rounder plays 40 NHL games). It doesn't even get the convo started. |

Vanek doesn't get you as much as Ryan because he has 1 year of term on his deal. Ryan has 2. |

Huge trade in the works. Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well.

I'd give them a first rounder. A 2014 first. If you add Ryan and Grabovski you make the playoffs. I'd be tempted to make it Ennis Girgensons and a first for him. It al depends on the route you want to go. Retool with a mini rebuild or totally rebuild |
