Quick one for you guys. UFA's are not allowed to sign with teams or receive offers until Friday, yet guys like Briere are already being "signed". Are these guys just eligible to do that because they were bought out? Or are they not actually signed, just have an agreement in place?

It's cause they've been bought out. Free agent deals are unofficial until Friday when the league can approve them.

It's (frank)ed for a couple reasons.

1st Briere was bought out so he is allowed to talk numbers, but I don't think his deal can be official til tomorrow.

The other thing is while the NHL says no talking numbers, there is nothing in the CBA saying you can't. Gregor had a guy on his show last week talking about the whole Vinny to Toronto only to get bought out, only to re-sign in TB. Said that the league can tell teams how they view it, but if the wording isn't there to 100% back them up then the league really can go (frank) itself.

Not sure how it looks that within a week the league had to send two noticed to clarify parts of the CBA.
