This team is in a better position at this point than they were last year at Free Agency time and they handed out over a quarter of a billion dollars in contracts on 3 guys. They whiffed on 2, but they swung for the fences.

Now because of Vinny and Streit they have lots of flexibility via the trade route.

Tomorrow will be interesting for sure.

We'd either give Coots or BSchenn for Kane so pick your poison. I'd wholeheartedly give BSchenn + whatever nonroster pieces necessary to get Kane, but that's just me.

I have to ask this....where did Evander Kanes name come up....Is it a rumor out there or are we just kinda saying we like him

I like Couturier but definitely think he's overrated on this site at least. I see him as a Keith Primeau with maybe a bit more offensive upside but not quite as good defensively. Primeau was an All Star scoring single digit goals one season so I'm not trying to slight Couturier's defensive ability there.
- phillydentist

Yea and Ovechkin was a 2-time all star THIS YEAR so our All Star system isn't exactly perfect.

I think it came up at the draft time. Guys like Kane, Seguin, Skinner, they all have these large cap hit contracts that start kicking in and it may scare the teams they play for?

It's possible I brought it up a LONG time ago but it could've been anyone. He's amazing and probably on the brink of superstardom. He's essentially Simmonds but x2 skill and scoring ability-wise and 3 years younger. Just an awesome player.

NHL - The Flyers are still involved in talks for Evander Kane, however talks have picked back up for Bobby Ryan, Hiller not involved.

Rich Smith

He had the Vinny rumors correct idk.
Just fun speculation

I agree....I know people love him and I think he is going to be a really good player but doesnt this just look like a team getting ready to trade Coots....They are backlogged at center and schenn can play the wing I am just saying

It would be coots plus a 1st minimally to start

I wouldn't say that. Acquiring a 33 and 35 year old doesn't "free you up" to trade all of your youth, and luckily Homer knows this. I'd support trading some of our youth for Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian, Tyler Myers, and a few others, but that is because they are so young.

I feel like every post I talk about moving the kids I always follow it up with something like "just saying" I dont know how Id feel about it, but I guess if it helps the team then its a good thing, and ya gotta trust that they wouldnt do that if they truly didnt feel the move would be of benefit.

But Im good if they keep this team as is with Thomas or some FA goalie. Such a good position to be in really.

Not necessarily if as BMetz said the'd prefer BSchenn. Remember that BSchenn and Evander Kane were picked in the same draft year, Kane at 4th, and Schenn 5th. Schenn's offensive game could easily end up being equal to Kane's, Kane just has the physical game over Schenn.

So what top 6 forward are we getting rid of, then? I don't see why we'd trade for Bobby Ryan when he's a UFA in 2 years and is known to want to come here. Let's show patience and go with Evander Kane. In 3 years our top 6 is
Kane - Giroux - Voracek
Ryan - Lecavalier - Simmonds

Those lines would truly fit Philly's physical, gritty style.

I put "just saying" cause I really dont want them too cause I know it always bites this team in the ass...I just think as Flyers fans we all know whats coming and with signing a Center for 5 years it makes a least one of the so called "kids" expendable

Their draft position is the only thing that is comparable and it's irrelevant 5 years later

Evander kane has been a star and is on the verge of superstardom

B schenn can't hold his jock strap. And trust me b schenn has no shown ability to be what e Kane is right now

We signed that center for 5 years because we wanted to win him over, it brought is cap hit down, and if we ever want out Tampa would undoubtedly take their captain back for the final year or 2 of his contract at a mere $4.5mil/year.

Yea, hopefully its for someone elses youth this time. They just keep touching the hot stove over and over, then stand at the podium to explain that they burned their hand again.

Partly why I don't like it. I personally think Coburn (A more valuable asset than we here think, surprisingly), Read, and a couple non roster pieces like Cousins, Ghost or multiple high draft picks (not 1sts) is sufficient value for Edler.
