do you see any team trading a young top pair defenseman for Couts?
no one trades these guys away

The Flyers don't really have any other huge holes (if its true they are going with Emery and Mason in goal).

Sorry you think Couturier couldn't return good value? If so that's actually laughable.

Actually, they don't, if the coach utilizes the roster on hand intelligently.

I think Laughton gives them a way to replace Couturier if they need to make a trade
- Jsaquella

I'd rather trade Laughton. Tired of hearing Couturier's name in trade rumors. He fell into our laps and we're going to give up in him faster than JVR?

They'll get a good player, but they won't get a 24 year old all star caliber defenseman who might have a Norris in his future for Couturier

Which opens another one -- defensive center that can score.

They weigh it on several factors, one being, does sending an extra year in juniors benefit him more than playing in the NHL? Laughton doesn't have a lot to prove at the OHL level, so is it better for him to play 20+ a night in a league where he can dominate or to get 10-13 minutes a night in a league where he will have to learn and work his tail off to stick?
- Jsaquella

The thing is, he hasn't dominated, he's played well but no where near domination. Domination is what Coots or Giroux did.

I think he's better of playing that extra year in the OHL, Boone Jenner is gone (i think) and Laughton gets that number 1 center role he hasn't had and improve those offensive skills, imo.

Didn't say he dominated, said that he can dominate. I have zero issue if they keep him in juniors. But they have to decide if he'll be better served by playing at the NHL level.

Laughton's offensive game as the same stage in their careers is a lot less developed than Coots and people are knocking coots for not scoring enough...

Well first of all it'd probably have to be similar to Coots, who's potential is a 1st line center with Selke nominee defensive skills, but he just hasn't proven that yet. It'd be a 20 to 22 year old guy who's in the NHL but hasn't proven himself as that yet. Think Brodin or Hamilton or the likes. I would say Hamilton is untradeable, but seeing as Boston just traded Seguin, and Boston has 2 OTHER young defenseman proving themselves to be awesome, I'd say it's entirely possible he's not totally untouchable. I don't think Coots straight up would get it, but I don't think we'd have to add BSchenn or anything else major like that for it to go.

No I meant long term needs. We need someone to replace Kimmo when he retires. And actually ya that's the only "gaping" need. I shouldn't have said needs.
