Flyers just trying to outscore teams.

And punish physically, that's one of the key aspects of those 2 players.

G went from wing to center he was drafted as a wing. Scott is a center he was drafted as a center. When G moved to center wasn't really the point.
- cfish99

My point was that Laughton can play wing (if needed) on the 4th line. A player signed to a 1-year deal for $600k shouldn't determine whether or not a young 1st round picks plays in the NHL or not. There are ways around it.

Could be. I would be on board if they could acquire either of those two. But then what about Hartnell?

I'm slightly disappointed Holmgren couldn't get a deal that was slightly below market value for Giroux. IMO, Giroux isn't worth the cap hit he will get and the Flyers will regret it. I like Giroux a lot but I just don't think he's at the top tier. If it were up to me, Giroux would get Richard/Carter'ed before his NMC kicks in.
- phillydentist

I would put him at the bottom of the top tier..He is not a Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos/OV(when he tries) type but he is in that ballpark..

1. Gone up in points every season.
2. Over the course of his first 4 full seasons 289 games , 79 goals, 182 assists = 261 points
3. 25 years old entering his prime when this contract expires he will be 34 assuming he stays with the team so just at the end of his prime.
4. By far the most dynamic offensive player this team has had since the 1 year of Foppa and Lindros in his prime before that.
5. +18 over his career and that includes this years crappy season.
6. 55 points in 50 playoff games...
7. in what was considered a down year for him he still averaged a point a game.
8. Has missed 5 games in the past 4 seasons..

Again he is not one of the big 4 but then again only they are... I put him right below those 4 players though. I put him in that tier with Getzlaf , Towes , Kane and others I am forgetting by my brain is filled with 4th of july hamburgers so I can't remember who they are.

4th line minutes isn't ideal for Scott's development though.

You guys remember who our coach is right? Line assignments mean nothing after the first shift.

In all fairness to Horc it was only his contract that made him look bad. He s a solid 3rd line C and a good 3 zone player. Nothing but good things to say about him.....but it was time, and good on MacT for making that deal.

This is a great post. I think Giroux got fair market value. I was just hoping for a discount for once. For most forwards, I think their prime years are 25-30. At least we will get all of Giroux's prime years assuming he doesn't get shipped by next summer.

It won't hurt him, so long as Laviolette doesn't leave him there and forget he exists.

Mike Richards was the Flyers 4th line center for 05/06 and 06/07 (when he wasn't injured). He turned out okay.
Also, he'll get spot duty on other lines as game needs and injuries dictate. Also could get PK and possible PP time. He won't be used like a 4th line goon. He'll play 12-14 minutes a night.

Best part is he completely schooled our stupid blogger, who had been claiming a "source" had told him that it was 100% certain Horcoff would be bought out because he was untradeable.

gags was pretty solid last season

I was actually surprised it took a while for Lavi to use him on the PK

him and G would wreck havoc

#shortieheaven

gags is fine and ready to retire in style
two yrs four mill

(this worked with me obsessing over signing hall so i'm gonna stick with the plan)

I do love that they kept Adam Hall, but I wonder what it means for Laughton, Couturier, Talbot and Gagne in the 3rd/4th line roles.

I don't think the front office has a plan for Laughton to play in the AHL. I think Coots is gone for a dman and Cob urn and read are gone for a top notch winger for G

What time does free agency open tomorrow?? The free agent show isn't until 2pm on NHL Network. Does it open at noon or 2pm?

Is he that extra center they can send down and not have any cap hit worries.....it seems we always have a center we pickup on the cheap and treat them as dispensable..

Signings can be officially made starting at noon. By signings, I mean the signed contracts can be submitted to the league office starting at noon.

Lecavalier, Briere, etc...they can't technically be signed yet. Alll they have done is agreed to terms and when the contracts get approved by the NHL registry, then they're locked in fully.

everyone cries about how detroit develops... you think they'd leave him in juniors or rush him?

why do we have to rush someone just because they're panning out to be good?
