I still dont see why you would trade him....he is the face of the franchise and that's what star players are going for....not surprising and not a big deal once the cap goes up next year

A little bit of both. Either way the team we traded to sure did pretty good after they dumped him on us.

If we had Roy in 1997, I'd be willing to bet we'd have another Cup on the mantle.

Don't get it twisted like Peter won it for the Avs himself. There were 3 other HOF players on that squad.

Well I personally wouldn't use Giroux to fix any deficiencies on the team. Because that would only create another deficiency. Any player can get hurt. I don't see that as a reason to not lock up their best player.
- MJL

Agreed. Giroux is the guy that leads you on the front end. Now need a Defenseman and possibly goalie. I'd like to see them build those positions through the draft as they did with Giroux. Obviously you never know how guys will pan out, but patience and hanging on to draft picks is a big part of the process.

Did you see what Pierre Lacroix did to surround Forsberg and Sakic? He traded for Patrick Roy, no he flat out stole him. Lacroix trades Joceyln Thibault for Roy. Clarke in his tenure tries Hextall, Snow (who can forget the shoulder pads , and Beezer in goal.

Clarkie didn't get the job done in obtaining assets to help support the core of Lindros, LeClair, Thieren, Ricco, Renberg and Brindy.

The flyers pick up quality forwards the way sailors pick up hookers. I wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep. Is he good yes but he's not 8 mil a year good IMO

Have any of them been as good as g?

Who have they had that have been as good as Giroux, in your opinion? From why I've seen of g and what I think he can do, I'm not sure who they have had in recent years that can compare.

Gagne in his prime was pretty good. Couturier is the second coming of Christ according to some, Richards and carter weren't bad.

I don't believe so, I'm not sure where he fits because his main purpose is on PK. The Flyers already have Talbot, Coots, Read, and G to do the majority of the PK work. Also, Hartnell has done spot duty.

Lindros. But I was always a huge fan.

Both players were franchise players. It's a good argument whether the Avs would have won their Cups without Patrick.

IMO, none of them measure up to Girouxs skill set and style of play and leadership. I see what you are saying with going to defensemen and goalie first, but if I'm locking any offensive players up long term, it Giroux. The other guys you mentioned, except for maybe Richards, are not franchise players, but second tier to me.
