Maybe our disagreement is from semantics.

IMO, the Pronger trade is bigger than either the Richards or Carter trades.

You seem to be saying the Carter AND Richards trades combined are bigger. I would agree there.

- phillydentist

Well said and I think that sums it up perfectly.

The Pronger trade is bigger then either the Carter or the Richards trade individually.

For me though the trades of Carter and Richards minutes apart are essentially 1 big trade..

FWIW I agree with you.
Schenn-Lacavalier-Read
Talbot-Couturier-Simmonds

Good balance of size, speed, skill and 2 way play on each line.

- BiggE

I keep Simmonds on 2nd line.

Read is the better two-way forward and better transitional forward, so, keep him on a defensive oriented line that can transition up the ice. Plus, he may be the odd forward out.

Keep Simmonds on the second line to work boards and in front so Lecavalier and Schenn can generate some space.

With edler still possibly on the market the flyers should definitely go after him. Also see Tampa is looking for defense through trade. Maybe they would want meszaros back. Then we can still look into coburn to Edmonton. Maybe for dubnyak and a pick.

Timonen. Schenn
Streit. Edler
Grossmann. Gustafson.

- youarewrong

Well first you would probably have to give up a coburn to get edler, 2nd I dont know cabout edler because he has had some back issues which seem to always pop up over and over again with hockey players, and 3rd Coburn is worth more then dubnyk and a pick and 4th and most important why did you get rid of yoda

NHL - Flyers top G choice has always been Emery, the problem has been its expected he would resign with Blackhawks, now, maybe not.

Swap Read and Simmonds and I think they are great 2 and 3 lines...

I said rarely. If I were grading out Homer's GM skills, I would give him very high marks for trades.
- PhillySportsGuy

Absolutely
The Pronger trade was a good trade, Pronger was a #1 future hall of fame defenseman still playing at his peak level at the time of the deal and with him they came within 2 games of the Cup. While you obviously expect some decline in his skills as he ages, the track record for hall of fame defensemen from ages 36-40 is a pretty good one. Bourque, Chelios, Lidstrom, MacInnis, Robinson were all still top players at that age and Pronger is certainly at that level. There was no way to know that he was going to take a puck to the eye and have his career cut short.

Some other very good trades:
Zhitnik for Coburn
2nd rounder for Biron (Marty B stabilized the club in goal for 2 years)
Forsberg for a 1st.
Swapping that 1st for the rights of Timonen and Hartnell
Voracek and Couturier for Carter
Simmonds, Schenn and the pick that landed Grossmann for Richards

All in all, Holmgren has done a decent job.

Anyone think there is any realistic chance Gagne comes back...As a fan I really want him back but I just don't know if there is either the cap dollars or the spot in the lineup available for him.....any thoughts

Schenn as 3rd line Center
trade Coots for Evander Kane
Evander Kane/ Giroux/Voracek
Hartnell/Vinny/Simmonds
Gagne/Schenn/Read
Best top 9 in hockey

Vancouver is trying to dump cap so coburn wouldn't go to them.

As for yoda. Just time to switch it up.

so what's the situation with gagne? seems like it's only possible if laughton gets sent back

or maybe if they go cheap-o on goaltending

or homer get's wild and starts trading players left and right
