Well, to be fair, that's not really much of an accomplishment. Both teams are young and/or rebuilding.
- Deadmau55

Fair enough...but I think we challenge for one of the top three spots in the Pacific. With the new divisions the top three three teams from each make the playoffs and then there's some wild card spots I believe?

I think Nucks are on the decline and the Oil are two moves away from being #2 in the division. And Calgary...well...give it a few years please.
- FLflames34

I don't think the Oilers are deep enough yet, they're soft down the middle and they've got weak defense. Not to mention average goaltending, time will tell. I think the new coach will help.

To date the Canucks have done nothing, but they're still far and above better than either Edmonton or Calgary. The numbers will tell you that.

Clouts is like George Kastanza...he should think about his predictions, and then say the exact opposite. 3 reasons why Horcoff remains an Oiler.
1. He is still one of the top 15 or 20 3C's in the league.
2. Might not be able to move him.
3. Might not be able to find a suitable replacement.

Bonus:
4. It will Cloutier Bananas

Those four teams are definitely the strength of the division...for now anyways. As mentionded, the Canucks are on the decline but still a good team.

I just wanted to stop by and say that Ovechkin being named to the 1st and 2nd team was moronic and Taylor Hall was robbed.

Carry On.

- faustus1500

I'm sick of the NHL sucking Ovechkin's 8cm cock. Was Stamkos even picked?

He checked out of Edmonton years ago, it really doesn't matter if he can be replaced or not. He is a big part of the culture of losing ,IMO of course.

- HawkfaninBC

Yeah I get that sentiment. But from my perspective, the Oilers have been saying the right thing and not doing it for a while, and that's a problem that extends way past Horcoff. Taking away losing culture but not improving the team mechanically doesn't mean we end up winning more, it just means we've got guys who are angrier when they lose.

they can only retain 50%
- SuperM

Even then, why wouldn't a team looking for a good third line veteran center want him at 50% off? Oilers gave him the contract, man up and pay the guy, if not while playing for your team then for another team. Putting him in the minors is a female dog move, kinda like Tambellina did with Souray.

What about the opposite? What if the mechanics are improved to a point that the team can start winning? Does the losing attitude bring down the whole team, or does the winning/confidence have a positive affect on the guys with the losing attitude?

Very rarely do teams talk about locker room problems while they're winning. That's just my observation.

I wasn't advocating a NEED to keep Horcoff, merely that he isn't addition by subtraction, unless we replace his skillset.

Well I certainly agree with you there. Getting rid of Horc for the sake of getting rid of him is folly, unless we have a decent 3C in place.
On the other topic, there were murmurs about the Flyers locker room split between Pronger and Richards...and they went to the SCF..so it does happen, I suppose.winning teams with issues in the room.

I actually still believe that going to happen. Teams have to wait until after the draft and free agency to truly know what they have before making team altering trades. It usually has less to do with who's coming in as it does with who you're shipping out.

Don't even JOKE about Horcoff landing in Detroit. We don't want him, don't need him. Not even if he offered to play for free.

Canucks will finish in the top three of the Pacific Conference, no worries there.
- LeftCoaster

With Tortorella screaming at the all the primadonnas and floppers on the Canucks I really can't see that happening. Not to mention I really think the sisters are gonna walk after the year is done.

and just how did they go from one of the worst teams to one of the best without making changes? (so far)
- LeftCoaster

Tons of help needed no doubt. But the single biggest factor with this team is the further maturation of the kids.

Neglecting to think about this is as silly as asking why our core of 18,19,21,21 and 22 year olds haven brought us to the promised land yet.. They must be busts

Yeah I was thinking about that... even Vancouver's underachievement can certainly be attributed to their locker room issues (rumour out of Van today for instance is that Schneider requested to be moved after Kesler fooled around with his fiancee).

I think the thing we don't know is whether Horcoff could be rejuvenated if the team was winning. I think the only thing that's clear is that 7 years of losing has got him down. It's not necessarily true that he or Hemmer have any issues outside of that. I don't advocate waiting around to find out, but I think Horcs would be okay on a non-losing team.
