we are trading for a player that would put us over the cap by 1.4 mil so we needed to clear space

i dont think it is about cap space, i think it is about roster spot and simply waiving him (nobody will take him) and putting him in Rochester still counts against you cap so this makes sense.

Gerbe didnt make enough for compliance buyout which if I remember correctly was $3M.

Its either mutual termination or a regular buyout which will be 1/3 of his 1.85M in salary (player under 26) over 2 seasons.

Would like to add this probably had something to do with how close Sabres were to 50 contract limit. Although I think he wouldve been a great vet leader in Rochester.

It might have more to do with the fact that Darcy said on multiple occasions that they don't plan on buying anyone out.

When you have $14 million in cap space... why would you think that saving another $1.5 million is something they would need to do to make a deal and/or sign someone? They have plenty of space. Today or Friday, I believe, from watching NHL Tonight is the deadline for doing buyouts... so maybe there is something to it.

Why waste a buyout for 1.5 mil when Stafford is worthless an gets 4?

This is kinda crazy. From reading here most fans werent to high on him. But shouldnt they be buying out Leino. Not the small cap hit.
