I didn't understand this move by the Sabres at first and very well may not still... but I think this potentially is a good sign they like their chances with Briere. I can't imagine that they have enough deals in place already to cap out their $14-15 million in cap space that another $1.5 million is the make or break point. So, why Gerbe then? Possibly because the lineup can't afford 3 players of smaller stature simultaneously. Maybe this is a possibility, maybe not. We'll see on Friday.

I think its more to do with the 50 signed contract limit.

I posted here that we'd never ice a lineup with Gerbe, Ennis and Roy ...boy was I wrong. I am glad that they're getting away from the smaller guys but big picture-wise, this rebuild is going to hurt. Especially when you consider that the new teams in our division are well into their respective rebuilds and then you add Detroit to the mix as well; we're f'd for the foreseeable future!
