Was coming off back surgery last year and I thought he would get one more season to prove himself. Always gave a good effort, their are other guys I would have waived before him.

Guys with his work ethic will work their way back to the NHL, I assume he'll have a couple offers on a 2 way contract starting in the AHL but I don't see him being there very long. I agree though, he's looked a bit off since the injury (he had a concussion too no?)

Strange move, only makes 1.;5 mill why bother buying him out? LEino i can understand, but this doesnt give a lot more cap room...

Leino is/was hurt to end the season. he cannot be bought out. IMO, this team gives him one more year to get it together.

He was taking up precious space on the roster. In a rebuild any cutting of the fat is a great move in my opinion.

This is a good sign to me. We normally keep nice guys who try hard so hopefully this is part of our new direction.

Leino on a 2nd line would be pretty good.. he is a + passer and is good with other talent around him...

I don't see the correlation but I sure hope so.

The fact that we couldn't give him away for a pick is telling as to how he is viewed around the league. Geez, the guy wasn't making that much.

FYI, the type of waivers that Gerbe's on, besides for sake of a buyout, is also what players go on when the team and the player mutually agree to terminate the contract.

My guess is the Sabres are doing this to allow Gerbe to catch on somewhere else

i dont think it is about cap space, i think it is about roster spot and simply waiving him (nobody will take him) and putting him in Rochester still counts against you cap so this makes sense.

i am fine with that.. gives the amerks a constant captain and it is a hard working guy.. Gerbe just wasn't cutting it and there was no point in carrying on with him..
