Gainey-style all over again.
Plan A = Lecavalier
Plan B = Oh snap, Lecavalier doesn't give a poop about Quebec, let's get Brière instead

I was a fan of Bergevin until that Briere thing.

Agreed! Unless he moves Gionta, Pleks or DD to show he knows what he is doing.

I know how you feel.

But hey, let's just wait and see.

If he manages to pull a trade which involves DD/Gionta... having Brière doesn't look so bad.

And while he clearly doesn't make us bigger.... can't really argue with the fact he's a good player....

Brière is a washed-up, smaller version of Ryder. This signing is just to please to fefans, there is no sense on a hockey point of view. It's 4M cap badly invested. If they manage to trade DD/Gionta and find a way to add 2 big wingers, I'll get it.

Some NHL GMs suggest Clarksson could get 6 million per for 7 years.

I still think we are a better team with Brière than without him........ right guys?

Right?

Help me out here.

For $500,000 more you had a 33 year old Vinny for 5 years. Now we have another smurf who will be 38 when his contract is our. I rather have a 38 year old Vinny than a 38 year old Briere.

not sure about this, but I read somewhere that since the cap is going down this year, the new CBA says teams are allowed to go over it for 35+ years old player...but just for next season.

If that's the case, it would mean that the Brière contract doesn't hinder the team capwise for 2013-14

I don't really know for sure if that's true

That is the plan!
Other names will be added, some we won't be happy to hear about. If we can keep it down to Brière and Gallagher for our 2 small guys, we'll be fine.

I'm pretty sure the Habs offered the same conditions that the Flyers did. He just doesn't give a poop about playing here.

Only difference is that MB HAD a plan B. Gainey lost out on Vinny and went "I guess I'll accept the first trade call I get" "Oh, Salut Mr. Stather. Oh, you want our best prospect for Gomez? SURE!!!"

At least it's 2 years at 4M$ per....not 5 at 7.6M$
