i agree. i won't hate the Briere signing if it's part of a bigger plan. but if that's all he does with the top 9 i don't think it will make much sense. you can't just not have any size up front.

True. Briere could be part of a much bigger plan. But two years seems too much to me. At that cap hit.

This year: Galchenyuk

After that, who knows?

So DD plays the wing?

If MB was willing to pay to acquire Edler, and willing to pay to move up to the top-10 at the draft, it shows that he's not married to the roster and is willing to move pieces in the right deal. That's encouraging.

Still doubt he would trade Higgins though

If I was Bergevin, I'd make it two years if only to ensure he doesn't use Montreal as a layover only to go back to Philly next season.

Fine, we'll see. So who is your 3rd line centre?

No problem with briere @ 1-2 year as long as there's no NMC. Could be a good pick at trade deadline for a contending team needing clutch scoring for the playoffs..

Eller is a 3rd line center who plays both end of the ice well. But he is better defensively. That is my logic. Can DD do the job on the 3rd line. No he can't! DD needs to play in an offensive role. Eller is a good 3rd liner. On a good team he is 3rd liner. The Habs (I hope) are trying to build a good team.
- Champ

He's better than that. By the end of last season, Eller was a bonafide 2nd line center with 1st line potential. Which is why he was drafted 13th overall.

Absolutely. Just like Briere. His little body can't take the beating a 1C/2C takes on a nightly basis in the NHL. We already saw the toll it took last year.

I wouldn't want Briere for more than a year.

I'm still holding out hope that MB lands Edler. He's basically the Swedish, 27 year-old equivalent of Markov, minus the deteriorating body.

Plus, Mike Gillis is an impressively terrible GM.

Though DD doesn't have the scoring touch or shot that DB has.
