Buyout Crosby and Malkin,

Resign them for 1/3 of their current contract for same lenght

they get the exact same money overall,
pittsburgh gets rid of over 8 million$ a year of cap hit.

Why hasnt a team done this yet ?

Meant to actually add substance to my comments other than that. I actually went back and added a few of my own thoughts rather than just be a child on here

when you buyout a player you cannot resign them the year right after.

edit: the way that some were planning to get around this is for Team A to buyout Player A on Team A. Team B signs Player A for a cheaper cap hit & trades Player A back to Team A.

There was a rumour that the Lightning were going to trade Lecavalier to the Leafs. In return the Leafs would have received some assets, no doubt - a prospect or quality draft pick, for using their financial power to buyout Lecavalier's contract. AKA buying a draft pick or prospect.

Then, some bumhole in the NHL made an announcement about how salary cap circumvention is a no-no and there would be penalties.

and the cycle continues.
Nobody thinks Emery's hip can hold up as a number 1. And Thomas was never really all that fit to begin with....what kind of shape is he going to be in after not playing for 18 months?

You'll have to settle for Corporal Obvious. Nowhere near as qualified as Captain Obvious.

Lecavalier signed with the Flyers because the Flyers offered a better contract.

End

This could all be avoided if we took Brian Burke's suggestion to allow trading cap space and $$$$

Lower budget teams would be able to ice a more successful team under their lower budgets because they would presumably have more younger players and prospects (Teams with higher budgets would trade cheaper, younger players & draft picks for cap space). Higher budget teams could ice a more competitive team by paying for talent in free agency by trading draft picks for cap space.

OR, higher budget teams can buy their draft picks back with money (not cap space) from the lower budget teams. (They could then use this cash to keep their talented players signed)

Would be interesting because both low budget and high budget teams could still ice a competitive product.

So what player are the Habs gona sign ?
I'm looking at the free agents this year, and there are a ton !
With most teams already at cap maximum, some big names might sign for cheap

Here are a few players I would like the habs to shoot at

Iginla
Horton
Elias
Stalberg
Penner
Clarkson

what do you think ?

We're also getting Komisarek back for the league minimum.
